The ending... (spoilers!)

Okay, just to see that I'm on the same page, anyone care to explain the ending to me? It turns out he had experimented on his son, thus preventing the natural immunity from taking place?

Also, holy wow Germans sure know how to party! I wish my work parties were like that!

reply

The ending seems vague, but yes; i also think that's what it meant.

Not a bad movie, but nothing more than what i always call a "fun-for-once" movie.
And the trailer is rather misleading, making this movie look like a Cronenberg-esque movie about mutants.

reply

Really? I took it as he killed his own son...

I wish I could eat you so I could vomit you

reply

he is seen standing by his son's cot holding a pillow. I took that as meaning that, to spare him an agonising death, he killed him - only to find out later that, had he not done so, his son may have recovered. (We can only say 'may' as Rebekka admits that she tweaked the genes a bit.)

reply

yep, it's what I was thinking..

I wish I could eat you so I could vomit you

Martin Freeman.

Intolerance of intolerance should be applauded.

It's called irony, and it was used incredibly well in the movie. He passed on to his son this gene that caused tumors, then cured them. Thinking he was sparing his son the agony of dying via the ever-expanding tumors, he suffocated the baby with a pillow. The ironic part was that his son would have made a full recovery, and would have lived with fantastic healing powers.

Does everything really have to be spelled out for people anymore? I thought it was pretty obvious.

reply

I had to have it spelled out for me. I watched this at midnight, couldn't have the volume loud. could barely hear the dialogue and there were no subtitle options on the DVD :(

I'm sorry but what's the point of watching then? Why waste time and a (probably, in general, this movie wasn't though) good movie if you can't follow the dialogue in any way? Watch a Buster Keaton movie instead. ;)

reply

I only had the DVD for one night, and when I had the volume up certain parts were so loud I had a complaint from a neighbour as she could hear it from my window (which had to be open due to the hot weather).

I like to watch DVDs with both subtitle and sound so that if I didn't catch the sound I can at least get the gist of what was said by glancing quickly at the subtitle.

Also, TVs these days SUCK. What the heck is it with music and sound effects being excessively loud but the dialogue being virtually inaudible? I spend most time watching DVDs having to turn the volume up and down (and my TV was not cheap by any stretch).
