True Blood rip off?

Looks that way so far.

oh, yea, totally ... NOT, it's a comedy goofball.

The truth is out there.

So a story that shares a basic similar premis (supernatural creatures) means it is a rip off of another?

Does that mean True Blood ripped off Buffy ?

What I meant was that both shows focus on supernatural creatures living amounst humans. You can't really say that True Blood and Buffy have anything in common besides Supernatural creatures.

This show is actually pretty funny.

More like Supernatural than anything else...

Everyone has ripped off everyone in Hollywood, make no mistake.

There hasn't been ANYTHING original on TV in over 50 years, and that's a fact, because someone has either lifted, borrowed or merely stole the premise for a new show from another older show.

The real zombies are the ones who sit in FRONT of the TV, not what's playing on it.

reply

so the premise for '3rd rock from the sun' had already been done before?
The only thing I can think of that way sort of similar was Mork and Mindy.

reply

'My Favourite Martian' leaps to mind (though that was similar in many ways to 'Bewitched' and 'I Dream Of Jeannie' with an alien instead of supernatural beings)-note that these are all pushing 50 years old now-DV most resembles 'Reno 911' crossed with any number of more serious monster shows or films...

'What is an Oprah?'-Teal'c.

More like Twilight is just True Blood with the porn taken out.The True Blood books came out before the Twilight books, and the True Blood series was filmed before the first Twilight movie and the first season aired before the first movie opened.

reply

That's okay, because True Blood is a total rip off of the Anita Blake vampire hunter novels. What do they all have in common? They're all $hitty vampire porn, whether or not if they have sex scenes.

[sarcasm on]

yeah, DV is such a blatant rip off.. of ALMOST EVERY SHOW ON TV!

- DV has actors... most tv shows have actors too!...
- DV is shown on a day of the week... so are a lot of other shows!
- DV is at least 30 minutes long! so are most other series!
- DV uses actors that are not called by their real names! most shows are based on fictional characters too!
- DV can be watch on a television! most TV are watch on television too...
- DV uses english as the spoken language! many series use English too...

with all these similarities with other shows it is obvious a completely UN-original show... and obviously EXACTLY the same as the R-Rated hour-long HBO Drama "True Blood"...

in fact whenever i'm watching one of the two shows I have to look at the tv guide to figure out which one I'm watching... it's just so hard to tell them apart!

It's more like Cops meets Reno 911 with monsters than anything else.

True blood - Buffy copy

reply

All of this stuff is a ripoff of George Romero and Bram Stoker.

This show is, for the most part, a new premise in that it is a blending of several premises.

"Reno 911" is already a spoof of "Cops"... i think you should add some horror influence to "Reno 911", not the cop show it spoofs to get 'Death Valley"... :)

True Blood is a supernatural/fiction/action/drama that focuses mainly on vampires, one oddball girl with strange powers she doesn't understand and for some reason wants to screw only with vampires, and her loved ones. Yes, there are werewolves, shape-shifters, were-panthers, etc... and while vampires are out in the open the story focuses mainly on the girl with no involvement of the police except for one very mediocre cop and it's in a small town.

Death Valley is a supernatural mockumentary, it's a satire of "Cops" (or Reno 911 as I've read here, but I've never seen that so I can't say) with supernatural creatures in it, it focuses on the cops that fight the supernatural creatures more than the creatures themselves, there is no one falling in love with vampires. More to the point, this is comedy, not drama.

So besides the supernatural factor, I don't see how those 2 have anything in common.

Actually, in one episode Billy says something like: "if they were to put all the things that don't make sense on True Blood together, they could totally make a show out of that."

That's what they're doing here, they took all the supernatural drama's and made it so ridiculously bad, it's hilarious.

reply

I haven't even seen this show, but I know calling it a True Blood _ripoff_ is just absurd...
