ASKOR - Episode 3

Clearly this 'Ask OR' rather than 'Askor' which Ruth reads from the bathroom mirror, ie Olive Runcie. Olive either saw what happened or has something very big to share.

"Damn good coffee...and hot!"

reply

Yes! Ask OR! Well spotted Never where, I didn't think of that but had already been thinking that Olive has some involvement - she's a bit older than Mark and would probably been a little girl in 1968

reply

I still maintain that Olive could not have been alive when Alice died. She would have to have been at least six to have been in the woods on her own as a witness and not only remember but also understand what she would have seen. And since the part of the story she comes into is 19 years later that would make her mid-twenties in 1987. I wont speculate on the actress, but the character is clearly not that old, and it would then make her nearly 50 in the 2011 part of the story- she is fefinitely not that old!

"I'm not really me. Thats me there- that pile of albino mouse droppings!"

reply

but she is in 1968, you see her!!!! she is about 6

"Damn good coffee...and hot!"

reply

Do we see Olive in 1968, Never where? Or do you mean Alice?

reply

I just looked on Wikipedia, the 2010 actress is Elizabeth Rider - it doesn't give her age but says she went to Lilley and Stone High School for Girls in Newark between 1969 and 1976. So she it would appear she is in her early 50s, which she looks as though she is to me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Rider

It doesn't mean for sure the character was alive in 1968 but is an indicator.

reply

Olive is definitely there in the 60's.... go to ITV.com and watch a brilliant trailer for next weeks episode!!

reply

We see olive in 1968, in the cemetary! she signs to Ruth, when Ruth is visiting Alice's grave. She's in it for about 30 seconds - episode 2!!!

"Damn good coffee...and hot!"

reply

Olive is seen with her mum in the 1st episode. She signs to Ruth, so she must be deaf.

reply

ah 1st episode, thought it was 2nd but either way she's there

"Damn good coffee...and hot!"

reply

Also in the fourth episode when Ruth is questioning Olive's mother if she had seen anything Olive is there.

But Stuart she was - she was the little girl who turned to Ruth in the graveyard (in 1968) and made the sign language sign for 'I'm sorry'. She was probably the same age as Alice - 8 years old. The character and actress in the 2011 period definitely looks the same age as me - 50.

Thanks for that Never Where and others, although I felt sure Olive was old enough to have been a child in 68 I couldn't recall that scene.

reply

I think Amy is now haunting the Nisha's house in 2010, I see a sad ending to the 80's family.

reply

That has been said in other forums ... and I think there could be some truth in it.

That opccurs to me having watched episode 4 out of 5 that Amy dies (I don't know this is the case though so not a spoiler)

reply

The one problem with Amy dying is the news it would have made, the 2nd little girl to die living in the same house in less than 20 years.
Also Mark and Nisha would have learned of that story surely because Mark knew Scott at the time (1987) so even if he'd left the area he must've known about the death of Amy (If that happens (ed))
More plausible he hadn't heared of Alice as she was thought to have drowned, and there would have been less coverage (internet etc)

All the same she was buried in the local cemetery.

reply

All the stuff so far -the teddy, the journal and the music box - belong to Alice and I doubt that Ruth would be there if it was Amy.

reply

Personally I don't think Amy dies, I just think the family left the area - probably to get away from the upset in the house.

reply

But weren't they all found by the family in 1987?
WE're yet to see an adult Amy but we do know her brother is local and has interracted with Nisha, but curiously not with Mark that we've seen on screen)

reply

What about Paul? Has there been any explanation about what happened to him (I might have missed it)?

No you mean Scott PLayed in 2010 by Daniel CAsey of MIdsomer Murders fame)

reply

Yes tgrrrsss, it's Scott who works in the shop - but we have yet to see him with Mark, which is strange as they did know each other as teenagers. The rest of his family I don't think he has mentioned. I've assumed they moved away from the area, but we shall see.

Yes fordmadox, I had thought the same things about Liz Runcie and the grandfather. I don't think it was foul play myself, though I imagine Olive has felt guilty all these years but was told not to tell anyone.

We shall soon see.

I am not too vain to admit that I was wrong. Having now seen (for myself) that Olive was in the last episode in the 1960's sequence.
I still don't think the actress in 1987 looks old enough- but that is just my opinion based upon a visual aesthetic. The character is clearly present in all three eras.

"I'm not really me. Thats me there- that pile of albino mouse droppings!"

reply

I missed her in the 1968 sequence too, but once it was pointed out I remembered. The 1987 actress is a RADA graduate so will have to be in her 20s (the character will be mid 20s), I think 1987 Olive is young in her ways (Mark is her first lover) which is a result of the sheltered life she has had, which might have given some the impression she's not in her 20s.

reply

If she could only manage to write five letters why didn't Alice write 'Olive' to her Mother? Unless the village was filled with people named Olive that would have been more helpful than 'askor'. If Alice wanted to get a message across why be cryptic?

I prefer Imaginality to reality.
