Far Left Christmas Hater...

... yet - I expected very little when I rented this movie. Connie Britton? Check! An odd cast of musicians? Check. I wondered if it was to 'churchy'. But my wife likes christmas movies. While waiting for my wife, I watched the previews. Ack - they were all religious slanted. This wasn't looking good...
The movie was enjoyably surprising. You've seen the story a million times, but the journey was embracing. Not sure why it went direct to dvd. This was surely no blockbuster, but it had big names, and would have been a modest holiday hit.

I've always liked Fionnula Flanagan - Granny, and remember her from 'rich man, poor man', in the 70's. GREAT actress! Kris, Willie, and Lyle were enjoyable. Especially Willie. He just oozed comforting charisma. The only other artist I recognized was Marcia Ball. Half the cast sings or plays, and they are all good. The music has an organic feel, and fits like a glove. It made me want to look up the artists. (like 'the Trichas', singing at the front door). And that's Ray Benson as the grill master.
The movie seemed to be chock-full of Austin or Texas folk. At first, I assumed it was some project Connie did in Austin during her FNL's time.

Yes, the story was corny and predictable. Kids will enjoy it, and adults may like the cast, the quirky townsfolk, and the music. It's like a talent show, in the background. I might watch it again for the song parts.

I love Christmas movies. I love Harry. Glad you decided to give it a chance.

Hmm, I'm not sure you know the meaning of "being left". It's the right wingers who are usually called the bible thumpers.
