Nice horror anthology film if you ask me
I got this movie at the stupid redbox, which I hate, because I saw the rating here and even though it only had a few votes I thought what the hell, if a few dozen people liked it and there's a scary clown in it, count me in. That's how I wound up seeing The Funhouse and that worked out for me.
As a huge fan of anthology horror, I was not anticipating much. But it was actually an above average collection of stories, and a few of them were a little derivative. This might constitute spoilers but here I go:
-The first segment reminded me of Creepshow's "Father's Day" minus the cake. They're actually not very similar at all, but I'm just warming up here.
-The segment that may or may not take place in China (or Korea?) reminded me of one of the segments in Trick or Treat. Trick or Treat's take on the story is superior.
-The segment with the police officers (Re-Membered) was like a story from what I believe is Creepshow 2 called The Hitchkhiker crossed with the Twilight Zone episode One More Mile to Go
The Clown segment ("Clowned") was awesome and original as far as I know!
-The final "segment" - which is a super weak attempt at tying up the wraparound - is like a way weaker version of the Tales From the Crypt episode "Til Death"
Anyway, it's a good anthology movie and I definitely think people who are way into Tales From the Crypt will dig it. It obviously didn't have a huge budget, but I liked it better than Trick or Treat but not on the level of Creepshow or Tales From the Crypt the Movie to name a few. "Clowned" is the star of this show. It would be an acceptable entry in any anthology movie, and while two of the installments are weak, I still would suggest it to anthology fans and give it a 6/10,
