Why is Jerry so desperate for attention?

Jerry appears to have had a nice life. I've heard many of his stories on this promo tour and they're fine. So sad to see him clamor for attention in his twilight. The truth is that he was just a money man. A huckster. He didn't create any art. He mooched off of talent. He's a schmoozer who got people paid for decades and now we're supposed to watch 90 minutes of said people kiss his ass. No thanks.

When you've made tens of millions of dollars off the work of others, it seems reasonable that you would fade off into the sunset being grateful. You wouldn't work up a movie tribute to yourself. Have some dignity for god's sake.

Umm...thats what a producer does. He brings everything together and "produces". He's not the artist. I mean, would you ask your doctor's office manager to perform the operation? C'mon, use your head.

reply

Good point, but not how you intend it to be. Who gives a *beep* about producers? Who wants to watch a movie about a businessman whose success depended on the performance of others? Who is more interesting and important? The doctor or the doctor's office manager? C'mon, use your head.

I agree with TC. I don't even know why I sat down to watch this yesterday. There were some moderately entertaining snippets about how Weintraub organized certain acts and movies, but it's nothing you couldn't get from watching 5 minutes of an "Entourage" rerun. I thought the creepiest part was how candid he was about cheating on his wife with some young actress who was trying to climb the ladder, and his wife was cool with it. Yeah, doesn't sound like any movie producer I've ever heard of. This guy is reeeeally one of a kind.

I wonder if there was a clause in the contracts for Oceans 11 that all the actors had to appear in this crapstorm.

The plot summary says:

A look at the professional, political and personal life of legendary movie producer Jerry Weintraub featuring interviews with friends, family and colleagues.
I don't quite see how flashing some photo stills of Jerry posing with JFK and George Wallace (!!), and having George H.W. and Barbara Bush talk about some parties they really enjoyed, gives us a lotta insight into Jerry's politics.

I guess we're supposed to infer he's a conservative?

His industry is composed of nothing but insecure people, no surprise that he is too.

try not to take life too seriously, no one gets out alive.

I dont know how many people on the business side of the entertainment industry are interesting enough to merit a documentary, but I absolutely think he is one who does. I find his whole personality and approach to life fascinating. I saw this a year ago. Tonight it was on again, and I watched it again.

It's clear from the opening shot that this "film" is in fact a vanity production.
