Did they tone down Hook?

Hook seems like less of an a-hole in the newer episodes. Did they tone him down, because people thought he was too mean?

They definitely changed him from his wicked bad ass self from the movies. In the show, he's taken on a more fopppish persona. It's rather sad.

It's for preschoolers - they more or less had to tone him down from the movies. Though I thought he was also toned way too far down by Dustin Hoffman in Hook - there wasn't a bit of menace to him in that movie.
