This show is cringeworthy

I get the writers are going for a more female base. This is like daytime soap bad.

Rachel can't act and her playing a doctor is laughable. David spade playing a nba player would be more believable.

I would really like to know where the creator is from because she takes every goofy southern stereotype and sticks it in this show.

I just started watching this show on Netflix. I'm only on episode 2, but WOW. You're right about the southern stereotypes. I was born and raised in Alabama, and so far this is incredibly laughable. I'm sure I'll keep watching to see how absurd things get, but the parade with the southern belle dresses... we don't do that. At least not in north Alabama. I've only ever seen women dress like that in themed shows in places like Gatlinburg.

And maybe it was intentional, but the UoA mascot is not an eagle as depicted in the parade. Their rival school, Auburn, says war eagle. Perhaps they were creating their own fiction by merging the two, but southerners take collage football pretty seriously and would hate that error (purposeful or not). Funny though.

HOD, season 1 in particular, is filled with intentional, usually laughable, stereo types. They know most of this stuff is an exaggeration. Just wait until you get to the Thanksgiving episode! I think a big part of it is to show how different this world is from the one Zoe comes from in NY. It's the quirky, very small, southern town vs big bad, east coast, Manhattan. Zoe is the main character so to some degree the show is from her perspective. This stuff is weird, especially to someone like her.

They don't do nearly as much of the quirkiness after the first season although it's still sprinkled in here and there throughout the rest of the show. The Executive Producer has said BlueBell is her idea of what the ideal small town place to live would be like and I think she likes the quirkiness.

As for the mascot, my guess is they either couldn't get permission from Alabama to use the real thing or didn't bother to try and just sent a production assistant over to the Warner Brother's costume house to find the most ridiculous thing they could. Remember, this was always a fairly low budget show. They touch on the Auburn/Alabama rivalry a couple times in the first 2 seasons (in particular early in season 2 they mention how important a college football allegiance is) but I don't think the EP probably knows much about that stuff :)

Anyway, I hope you can look past that stuff and enjoy the show for what it is, an escape to a world that's usually a lot happier and less complicated then the one we live in today.

Ummm....No. While I can understand you might not have enjoyed this show comparing it to the Bold and the Beautiful, Days of Our Lives and the Young and the Restless is downright ridiculous and I assume you haven't watched those shows to even make such a weird claim.

I love everything about this show! I'm from the south, Georgia to be exact, and I wish we had half the festivals and get togethers as this town does. I live in a small town, but not near as small as Bluebell is. I honestly wished I lived in a town just like Bluebell.
