Is this more in depth than 'The Universe'?

I dont enjoy "The Universe" series, it comes across as being dumbed down, especially some of the analogies they use to explain things.

Im just wondering if this is more in depth than The Universe?

Just to be clear though, Im not hating on the universe, I understand the job it does, appealing to a more mainstream audience which can only help with the popularity of Science. Its just not for me thats all.

I can say this with the upmost confidence, I cannot find a more in depth show than How the universe works. I have always been a fan of astrology, and this show enflames my passion toward the subject. Honestly I am enamored with every episode they air.

They cover many subjects, Stars, The sun, Solar winds, Asteroids, how the earth was made, the billions of Galaxies discovered. The also have many hypthetical events in space created in CG that looks so convincing you would think it was actually happening. Do yourself a favor and give this show a look, There are two seasons so far personally i prefer season 1 but IMO they are both great.

Astrology? Horoscopes? ;-)
Maybe what you wanted to say was "Astronomy"?

I love both shows very much but The Universe is still better!

The Universe is a great series, I would also recommend Wonders of the Universe hosted by Brian Cox (although if you're an American, you're going to have to learn to do some quick metric to standard conversions in your head).

I love this series and really hoping for more seasons.
They go pretty deep into topics but I cannot compare it with "the Universe" as I've never watched that show.

P.S. @Tasumaruoutcast buddy you mean Astronomy. Astrology is the bogus Horoscopes, signs thingy.

hi there..another humble fan here :) i LOVE this series but i need help with something please. i cannot find any eps on youtube really..and i am just starting to watch the first two seasons. hulu doesnt have it and netflix doesnt either i think. can you find it on the ondemand section if you have say Comcast cable? i am dyin to watch it online tho..cuz the tv is shared and usually others are watchin their stuff. thanks for any help :)

Well both are the same really but "the universe" is longer so has more material. I found "how the universe works" to be more through in most matter but there were something missed when talking about a subject which "the universe" covers. So basically a person should watch both...

Look inside yourself and understand the universe

It might be slightly deeper than The Universe, but it's still dumbed down a lot compared to things like Carl Sagan's Cosmos which makes it pretty useless for people already interested in these sort of things. There's a few clips that are very nice in it, but I'm very tired of documentaries for people who never really care about astronomy until hearing metaphors comparing things to soccer and similar subjects.

reply

And that is speaking volumes, because was Sagan not about making the subject(s) more accessible?

It's seriously disappointing too since his series was produced that many years previous to these...

There's a slogan written here. 'Happiness Will Walk Away'...

Don't worry, hopefully the new Cosmos will be a step back in that direction :)

Coming in March...

I started watching The Universe after thoroughly enjoying How the Universe Works. Although I like The Universe also, I agree completely with this statement. It's not that they are dumbed-down, they are dumbed-down in the wrong way. Some of their analogies are just silly. One analogy was that using gravity assist around a planet was like hitting a ball with a baseball bat. Well that's a terrible analogy. It is nothing like hitting a baseball.
