Did IMDB open it up to international or something? Where did this come from?
shareI don't know how this series got to #2, i had never heard of it, but yes, the "I" in IMDB stands for "International".
I'm not from the United States (even though I am "american", since I was born in America, which is the name of a whole continent, and there's no country named liked that) and I've been voting in IMDB for years. So apparently all our votes count, no matter where are from. :)
The "I" in IMDB stands for Internet.
Hence, IMDB= Internet Movie DataBase.

i thought that too but if you type internet movie db or international movie db in google and wiki both lead to IMdb, i guess both count since the internet is international

There's 15 countries without proper internet (like china is censored), North Korea only allow local websites and communication for it's network and is the only country in the world without internet at all. + small colonies and *beep* but I guess they have satellites
But everyone can vote and every movie and show should be listed.
That is what a database is: Every bit of information on the subject,
IMDB's goal: every movie and tv show ever.
SO yah IMDB is international but the internet is not, but the I stands for internet for sure.

Even it was available in just two countries it would be international. What do you think that international means? Worldwide?
That being said imdb stands for internet movie database, I already knew that, and for the people that didn't it just a small search away

and yeah, on IMDB the ratings we see are from worldwide users, it's not constricted to where you're from.

Internet is not international, it is multinational.

If we are talking about individuals of several nationalities then it isn't necessarily international but the internet is certainly carried on between countries as well as individuals. To put it another way multinational is not always international but international is always multinational.

international - existing, occurring, or carried on between two or more nations.

In the end we are just arguing over semantics, but I enjoy such arguments. :)
It's definitely Internet Movie Database because I remember using it before it was a web site. In the early days, it was just a giant text file. And if you go to the Wikipedia page, it clearly says, "Internet Movie Database".
