Currentely, this show is the 4th highest rated tv show on IMDb with a score of 9.4 (based on a minimum of 5000 votes).
Which means it is on par with the best of English language shows such as The Wire, Planet Earth and Breaking Bad.
Can someone who has has watched this show tell me if its worth checking out?
this is a great show if you are Turkish and you`re born in the 70-80ies. I strongly recommend it to any Turkish people who were born in that time frame to watch this show. You won`t regret. They make fun of everything in a way we are not used to. Episodes are very long, there are several episodes longer than 2 hours (yes, this is a weekly show!) and you can get bored time to time. I watched all the episodes every week and enjoyed it. I am sure I missed many of the jokes but still I had more than enough.
If you are not Turkish, this is not something you can enjoy or understand. Watching it with subtitles will not help and there is no way it can be translated properly. They use the language in a different way to make their jokes and there are a lot of slang (no swears).
This is not something like Breaking Bad and they don`t seek for other markets. It is not made for non-Turkish people and I don`t think they have any concern or goal to be recognized by foreigners. It wouldn`t be fair to compare this show with the other shows. This is 100% local.
The rating is very high but it definitely deserves it. I gave it a 10 because I enjoyed it completely and planning to watch all episodes again soon.
