Boy this sucked...

I love the show and was looking forward to seeing the Christmas movie after watching previews for almost two months. But OMG what a disappointment. Terrible writing and boring unoriginal story, but the biggest problem was it just wasn't funny, like the series is. The few semi funny moments were in the previews, so obviously they weren't fresh. The mom who is usually over the top anyway was a total train wreck, The grandma was someone you'd like punch in the face and then kick her while she's down. It's like a griswold movie gone bad. After about 70 minutes I finally walked away in total disinterest while my wife fell asleep, so I don't know how it ended nor do I care. Yeah I'm sure they make it and all probably ends well, but still no ending could make up for the 70+ minutes of pure garbage I watched. Such a disappointment...

I have no idea if it was the same writers who do the series or what but this movie really hurt the show which is one of my favorite family comedies. Really too bad

Cool story bro. Tell it again?

American Horror Story!

It doesn't work without the laugh track. The point of the show is the over the top acting with the built-in laughs. Without the laughs it just doesn't work. It stunk!

reply

Really? I always disliked laugh tracks especially when they're too loud. I like to laugh when I think it's funny, and to me, it feels as if the laugh tracks try to tell me what to do. lol

But I enjoyed the movie even though the commercials pretty much gave everything away. Disney's been doing that for a while now, so I don't get my expectations up when it comes to being surprised at something in their movies. It wasn't side-splitting funny, but it was entertaining enough.

@HomoHorrorFan
I disagree.
Without the laugh track it's a fresh change of pace.
Unfortunately that's the only positive thing about the movie.

@dcobbimdb
It's a totally different writer named Geoff Rodkey who gave us masterpieces like The Shaggy Dog.
He never wrote any episodes of GLC and it shows in the movie. None of the stuff happening in the movie was interesting, no funny jokes, no funny situations, no under the radar stuff which the series was known for.

Everything's bland and it seems like the movie was just a vehicle to bring one important message for the third season.

I, for one, thought it was a cute movie. It was actually really funny in a family-friendly way, so maybe that's why you didn't like it. It was refreshing to be able to watch a movie with the family and not have to cringe at any inappropriate references. The funniest part, for me, was when the Mom grabbed Santa's bell and threw it behind her at the mall.

What do you mean by innapropriate references?

I've got a theory. It could be bunnies.

References to sex, violence, or crude language.

I couldn't agree more. TERRIBLE writing, very predictable, not funny, and didn't even make sense in parts. You have to ask, why didn't they just drive their own car from Denver to Palm Springs? How did PJ burn both his front and back by falling alsleep at the pool (was he standing up?). The Yugo falling apart was stupid - should have stopped after the first wheel fell off. I'm all for suspending belief for a Disney movie, but come on - at least the TV show has some sense of reality...
