So who's interested in knowing more about this?

Way too early to know how this will turn out, but I'm really intrigued by this so far.

I love Ronald D. Moore. Loved BSG. Really, really loved CAPRICA (though even before it debuted I doubted if many would watch it - it essentially was a blend of high-end soap and SF, sort of Dynasty meets Dark Angel, not a recipe for mass appeal). I also loved Season One of Carnivale (Season Two, after he left, not quite as much).

So I have a lot of confidence that he will do his part . . . except, he has three other shows in development. There is GALACTICA: BLOOD AND CHROME. There is the relight of THE WILD, WILD WEST for CBS (which I think actually could be pretty decent - the original show is appalling to watch today, but the concept is pretty decent, and with modern technology it could be really nifty). And he is doing a show about the Coast Guard for CBS (at least I think it is CBS, though I could be wrong), that I have to admit doesn't precisely thrill me.

I love that he is doing all these shows, but I wonder to what degree he can be involved with them given how many balls he has up in the air.

I like the concept of the show: detectives in a Harry Potter type world. And I like the casting of Stockard Channing and Jamie Bamber. We'll see who else is cast.

So I guess my attitude so far is: so far, so good. I'm really interested to see what happens next.

I agree with you really interested in the show. Love Jamie, BSG, fantasy shows and crime dramas so they've got me on all counts. Will be keeping an eye on this to see how it develops.

If you are interested check out this link should give you the basics:

also I believe it has a facebook page but haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

At this stage only a pilot has been greenlit so will have to wait to see if it is picked for a series. The casting looks real good so far though so fingers crossed.

Best one line description I've heard is that they "keep the order in a universe ruled by magic."

The way that magic is done on the show will be interesting. Wands? Incantations? Wiggling their noses?

What interested me so much about BSG was that it was very realistic in its depiction of outer space. There were some moments that were supernatural (Starbuck's return) but generally they were as real as they could get it. So I wonder how they strike that balance here.

I would call Starbuck's return more spiritual (religious) than supernatural. She was an angel, not a ghost. With 17th Precint I'm expecting all-out supernatural fantasy stuff like magic. And I gotta say I'm kinda disappointed by that. I never enjoyed sorcery.

Although I like fantasy as much as sci-fi, I think fantasy suffers from that phenomena where the solution to the problem that the first thirty-five minutes of the show spent developing is some sort of essentially random thing that we the viewers could not possibly foresee. Remember how most episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation ended? Wrapped up in the last two minutes by 'reversing the polarity' or 'modulating the dilithium'? With sorcery and magic, they can make up anything and it won't even have to pretend to make sense - 'channeled his essence' or 'focused my energy' or 'chili bean frogs secrete a magical oil'. The reason we forgave ST:TNG so often was because the stories were usual pretty good and they continued the original series's tradition of tackling modern day issues in a safe sandbox so we would have an opportunity to think. We've lost some of that with all of our soap-opera style sci-fi from the last decade. However, since this show is almost certainly going to be procedural at heart, with continuing stories and deep show mythology, to be certain, but basically procedural, perhaps we will get some explorations of social issues that the 'normal' cop procedurals don't dare touch. If we don't, well, they better not be sniffing chili bean frog oil.

This was already one of the most impressive casts for new shows, and now Esai Morales is joining the show? Yowsa! This is really, really exciting.

One thing that really encourages me is that Moore didn't do just BSG and CAPRICA, but CARNIVALE, which is important because it shows he can do shows with very different tones. He isn't a one-note show runner.

Just a side comment, it is pretty clear that the show is being made in Vancouver. Obviously Moore feels comfortable with his creative team there, but he also can pull from all the BSG and CAPRICA supporting actors that they know there.

Also, with him having two shows potentially in production there - GALACTICA: BLOOD AND CHROME already and 17TH PRECINCT almost certainly (with this kind of cast this absolutely looks like something that will inevitably be greenlit) - I doubt he could do them without the productions being fairly close to one another.

I'm interested. I adored Caprica and BSG. I need my sci-fi fix somewhere.

The premise reminds me a little bit of The Dresden Files, which I happened to like as well. Fantasy shows and science fiction shows, in general, intrigue me.

I'm curious as to whether religion will be a focal point in this series. It's understandable in BSG and Caprica because of the mythology inherent in those worlds, but I'm wondering if it will play a part here as well.
