What was ABC's reason for cancelling the show?

I was just curious what was their reason for cancelling the show.

reply

There is only one reason a network cancels a show, low ratings.

reply

I know that Low ratings are one reason. However I know that there can be others such as high production costs or other stuff. I thought the show's rating were rather decent if not the greatest.

I remember that the show did film in a lot of places such as Istanbul and Vienna.

Really stinks it was cancelled esp. with a cliffhanger. I would hope at least a 2-hour TV movie would be considered just to tie things up.

reply

YES, but that would be considered being CONSIDERATE of the AUDIENCE, which showbiz (well, the TV biz at least) is often not.

I understand Amy Brenneman, star and producer of JUDGING AMY, wanted to do a 2-hour TV movie to "tie-up-the-loose-ends" of JA after cancellation but CBS said "no" - JA was on for, what, SIX SEASONS, and then to Heck with the audience? [Yup.] So much for "loyalty" to a show and/or the audience.

Filming abroad isn't expensive if the cast and crew are all Europeans.

Except for Ms. Judd, Matthew Stillman and Mr. Carradine all the rest of the cast were actors from various European countries and the production crew was a production company in Europe, this wasn't an American produced project where they decided to take a crew abroad.

It must not be that expensive to film abroad "Covert Affairs" which is on cable network USA Networks did a few episodes abroad and they were just single stand alone episodes. They did one episode in Russia, one in France and some country that substituted for a middle eastern country.

I think Ms. Judd was an executive producer. I don't know about Mr. Carradine, but Ashley Judd lives in the US and Europe so it wasn't like they had to fly her there to work.

Laura Donnelly the young woman who played the CIA mole is from Ireland, Cliff Curtis the CIA director is from New Zealand but I've seen him in projects all over the place, the woman who played his boss is Gina McKee is a regular on the series "The Borgias" and she's from the UK as is the other CIA agent played by James Wong.

I don't think any of the actors playing CIA agents were Americans, not to mention Sean Bean he had 7 theatrical films in the works when he started this mini-series and he was already in talks to do his own series called "Legends" when this airing.

It was always my understanding this was going to be a mini-series which are common in Europe, most Americans always want a resolution to their stories. For a new series it was distributed to other countries around the same time the only reason I came over to the boards is because I had watched the mini-series but I'm in Singapore on business and just saw a promo for "Missing" and they keep talking about her running for office and she moved back to

Ashley Judd was nominated for an Emmy as outstanding lead actress in a mini-series. If it were a series even if it were canceled she would have been nominated as an outstanding lead actress in a series.

If you look at the project the actors involved already had other projects in the work even before this aired in the US.

Mini-series are more popular in Europe and they sometimes end with some unresolved stories.

The only reason I came over to the boards is because I had watched the mini-series but I'm in Singapore on business and just saw a promo for "Missing" as a mini-series.

When they did the mini-series "The Hour" in the UK it was just suppose to be a mini-series but when it aired on BBC America it was very popular and they commissioned another series.

I liked the way this series ended I don't need resolution for every single series I watch, I think it's edgy to leave some things unanswered. You don't always get resolution in real life either.

I didn't see a lot of people from the European countries where this aired complaining about the ending being a cliff hanger.

Movies will make you famous; Television will make you rich; But theatre will make you good.

They should have edited the last episode and removed the cliffhanger since it was cancelled. As many here have said, no consideration.

ABC is notorious for canceling more shows than any other network

reply

I'm actually impressed that they even gave this show a chance, considering how much it must have cost to produce, between the locations and the relatively big star names.

I think FOX takes the cake when it comes to canceling shows to quickly. Firefly and Dollhouse are just two examples.

reply

Why? the ending is the end of it, what we saw affects nothing

reply

Um, I think you're confusing ABC with NBC. It's NBC who are notorious for cancelling shows and for no real reason, and have been doing so for over fifty years...

reply

The ratings were good for a couple of episodes but fell quickly later on.
