So wanted to love it.

I'd had this film for a year or two before I finally got round to seeing it. What put me off was the fact that I was afraid it would disappoint me after wanting to see it since it was released, thanks to an intriguing clip on BBC's film review show. I knew it would be a long, challenging watch, and I wanted to be in the right mood.

It was one of the dullest films I've seen. Perhaps I'm not clever enough to understand the merits of arty films, but it takes some patience to get through 150 minutes of nothing much happening.

As most people seem to agree, it looks great. Some scenes look like beautiful photographs. Unfortunately most of that is due to the near static nature of what's (not) going on.

I'm sure this is probably a great film, but unfortunately I don't get the appeal.

Ceylan's films seem to be rather inaccessible. This is another one I couldn't connect with it in any meaningful way.

I haven't seen any others, fortunately for me from what you say.
