I can't believe that there are no posts on this movie! It's even won top honours at the Tribeca Film Festival! Looks good - hopefully it will be on general release soon.

Synopsis
Directed by Lisa Aschan

A clash between two girls at a riding stables. Emma joins a group that is learning how to perform acrobatic exercises on horseback. Here she meets Cassandra, an experienced circus rider who at once recognises the new girl’s talent from the way she keeps a tight rein on the horses with strong, controlled movements. Cassandra is good-looking and strong-willed with a vibrant personality – the two young women find themselves drawn to each other. Before long, their mutual attraction turns into a symbiotic friendship. But then things begin to get complicated; misunderstandings arise that lead to arguments. All at once the two girlfriends’ relationship is pervaded by jealousy and power and this turns into a struggle for supremacy. And this in spite of their riding instructor’s recent reminder: “It’s not always about strength and control. It’s about creating your own presence.” Emma’s little sister might only be seven, but she couldn’t agree more with this piece of advice from the riding instructor. She wants nothing more than to own a new bikini, preferably with a leopard-skin pattern, so that she can impress her cousin Sebastian, with whom she has fallen in love. Emma and Cassandra’s friendship is now definitely on the rocks. Who will get the upper hand? Failing to execute a particular horseback exercise one day, Emma decides to find out once and for all. She confronts Cassandra in the stables …

Saw this tonight at the Tribeca Film Festival's award-winner showing and must confess I'm at a loss to understand why the judges gave it the top narrative prize. I'm a big fan of foreign films and don't mind those that unfold slowly, but this one left too many gaping holes in character and theme to be satisfying.

There was very little applause after the film ended and a large number of people in the audience got up and left before the director's Q&A -- which is unusual for this film festival. Several people asked the director about certain characters' motivations, about the meaning of the title and about her own intentions in doing some of the things she did, and she refused to answer almost all the questions, basically giggling at each one and saying that everything she did was planned but that was all she was going to say. Why bother to do a Q&A if you're not going to answer questions?

I'm trying to be understanding -- maybe she wants us to figure everything out for ourselves -- but I found the movie and her responses to be annoying and frustrating, which is too bad because I was prepared to be engrossed and intrigued.

Unfortunatly the audience can be tricked by "The Emperors New Clothes" effect to blindly applause and praise D'Erenlicte (glorified crap)

I am Swedish and this film is incredibly stupid and filled with nonsense, something wich the great actors in this production suffers from. If anyone need to be applauded at it should be them.

I agree with you, why go for an Q&A when you don't reply?

The answer is scarily simple - This is not a real director, this is not a real film, this is just a waste of 1.000.000 SEK with actors who deserve to be in real productions. Wich some of them actually are.

And note that to me this isn't a foreign film. Since I am Swe it's a Swedish film and you behold here the reason to why a lot of Swedes refuse to watch Swedish film. Sadly, since there are so much more better films who get passed by due to senselessness like this.

It's just a piece of shame that gives Swedish filmmaking a bad rep.

- And just about the time I am coming out of jail, hopefully you'll be coming our of your coma
