Jess became the most IRRITATING character

She quickly went from cute/quirky to just annoying and irritating within the first 2 seasons. She's always trying to get involved in her roommates problems and ends up making everything worse with either her bad advice or her own involvement in general. She can NEVER be serious even under the most serious situations. It's cute at first but after having to deal with it for six seasons I just can't get over the thought of how annoying her on screen presence has become. Megan Fox was a great replacement and gave the show the change it needed - a character that can actually be SERIOUS. It brought a great balance to the show since every character has become a complete goof ball including CeCe.

For a show with a female protagonist and a female showrunner, they sure have a problem writing for their female characters now. Jess is a mess, even less mature than when the show started. (Both Jess and Nick devolved really quickly but Nick came out of that looking better with his book and being co-owner of the bar. Jess doesn't really get any plots outside of being attached to a guy.)

I liked Jess in S1 and S2 but after six seasons she is definitely grating. I think Reagan could have been a great character but they stuck her into the Nick/Jess triangle and that was a mistake. She would be a better character if her main role wasn't "Nick's girlfriend" or to start the whole Nick/Jess thing again.

Did the show get new writers by any chance? Jess & Nick seem so different since S1 & S2 :/

I heard a lot of the staff writers left in or after S3. That would explain the different feel for the show. They should just let the person who writes for Winston write the entire show. Winston has been on fire this season, but everything in the A-story is a mess. Last night's episode was solid though. At least it had a coherent narrative, which you can't say about a lot of the episodes in S6, unfortunately.

But I don't think so because I agree with the OP.. the cute factor wore off quick as hell and now it's definitely just annoying.

I hate to say it but she annoys the crap out of me. I don't think it's Zooey Deschanel per se since I've seen her in movies that were actually quite good. It's the Jessica Day character that's like nails on a chalkboard.

I swear, if it wasn't for the rest of the cast, I would've dropped this show after the first few episodes if this is all the character was going to act like for seven years. I actually LOVED the ones with Megan Fox. As much as I think her acting is wooden, it was a breath of fresh air when she covered for Zooey's absence due to pregnancy.

Oh well, it's the final season. Only eight episodes. As of May 13th, 2018, there's two more left, then it's over indefinitely. I can't believe I made it as long as I did, lol.
