Maybe the OP meant it was affected because she did have to work at it. The Quebec accent is slightly different from the French accent that would be appropriate to Colette's character origin.
I agree on the sentiment that she was a great and engaging character, though.
The Colette character was one of those real break-out roles for the actress that seemed to occur more and more as the first series went on.
Going in, it was Ricci who of course got all the press. And Margot was almost an unknown back then, so got HER huge break-out reputation after leaving her blue uniform far behind.
But, during the run of the series, based on all the excited Colette messages posted while it was showing, Colette was the one who made the biggest impression on viewers, if the messages were anything to go by.
She really stood out and her fan base grew fast, when I think originally, being a far lesser known actress than Ricci or even Kelli Garner, that was surprising.
Colette kind of stole the show!

I liked the actress, but disliked the Collette character. She was filled with rage and just plain refused to be happy. I get it: the Nazis killed your parents, but for how long are you going to wallow in your misery? I get it: at the emotional level it feels like your parents abandoned you and you're never going to let yourself care about a man with whom you can have real intimacy, but why blame your boyfriend WHOSE GIRLFRIEND VANISHED INTO THIN AIR when the gf suddenly turns up? Collette was just a soap opera puppet.
Of course, I would gladly boff all four actresses.
She's a dream girl to me. Such a charming beauty but incapable of being happy. That's how I like em.

Sadly, that is very true for about half the population. People could have it good if they wanted, be happy for what they have and try to build a good environment around it, but their own resentments and dis-satisfactions arise. One person could be working their hardest to make things work while the other person seethes.
But I definitely wouldn't want - again - to be with a woman who is incapable of being happy, again (sic). But it's not that uncommon.
