What makes this a particularly horrendous case

There is a lot of hatred for Pamela Smart, certainly in New Hampshire, but also elsewhere. While murder happens all the time, this was a particularly awful, cold murder and I think some facts sometimes get overlooked. A lot of people talk about how "unfair" it is that the actual shooter(s) are now out on parole after serving 25 years, while Pam will never be freed. For those with only a surface knowledge of this case, I can understand that mentality. But for those of us who remember when it happened, and lived in the community, there is an emotional response to the reprehensible acts she committed.

Here is the bottom line that warrants her sentence:

IF IT WERE NOT FOR PAMELA SMART:
1) Gregg Smart would not have been murdered
2) Gregg's family would not have suffered and grieved all these decades
3) Four teenage boys would not have gone to jail for murder
4) Billy Flynn, a 15 year old boy she was mentoring in a SELF ESTEEM BUILDING class, would not have been sexually exploited.
5) Pam Smart's mother would not have to devote her entire life to the futile effort at trying to free her daughter

Imagine the parents of Southern New Hampshire learning that a school staff member, a person who is supposed to protect and nurture young people, instead had sex numerous times with a 15 year old boy (virgin) with low self-esteem, all the while conning him into killing her husband. And while doing this, she gets at least four other teenagers involved in the plot as well.

For the record: Pamela Smart has exhausted all of her state and Federal appeals. In all of her appeals, NOT ONCE does she argue that the evidence against her is not sufficient. The only thing she ever argues is that the publicity of the trial made it unfair. At the end of the day, publicity and news coverage (much of which she volunteered to participate in and even sought out) have NOTHING to do with the damning evidence that sealed her fate. Her words, clear as day, on the wiretaps are beyond dispute. Those wiretaps are what her few supporters will never be able to explain away.

She's as cold as they come.
