It takes place in the 2020s, and Empires don't quickly rise and fall, it took generations for Rome and Britain to rise and fall, same with the Soviet Union, though it might not seem like it. Anyway who thinks it took Reagan at the Berlin Wall for the Soviet Union to collapse ignores history. America might be on the decline but it's ultimate downfall won't happen for years. And that North and South Korea would reunify with no one even caring is also unrealistic. The only reason Korea was chosen was because the Russians invading America has been done.
