Anyone have any idea what the next DCOM is supposed to be?

I guess the Good Luck Charlie movie is a possibility. The only other movies I know of are Geek Charming and Frenemies.

Disney has stated they will only produce four DCOMs a year moving forward.

So, going by this we have:

-Lemonade Mouth
-P&F: At2D
-SLOD: The Movie

That leaves one more before December/January.

Did they? Where was this?

It was stated in one of their press releases last year around the same time the Up Fronts happen for all TV networks.

Disney is no doubt doing this to keep production costs down and so they can prioritize TV since this is their primary source of income.

A regular TV series is money in the bank (continuous revenue stream) whereas a DCOM is a one time hit or miss depending on how well (or not) it is received. Something like the P&F movie is a slam dunk whereas "Lemonade Mouth" was a gamble that paid off nicely on both the financial and critical fronts.

I wonder if that has anything to do with why the Wizards movie was canceled or why Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure was released on DVD a month prior to its Disney Channel debut.

This is exactly why SFA was released on both DVD and the Disney Channel.

Disney wasn't sure how well (or not) SFA was going to do since it is essentially a spin-off... But they also hedged their bets by releasing the DVD first, so fans HAD to pay to see it instead of just waiting for Disney Channel to air it for free. Also, the subsequent airings are nothing more than commercials for the DVD since the DVD (in typical Disney fashion) is an extended version of the movie they didn't/will never show on TV. This is double-dipping in its purist form.

As to why the WOWP movie was canceled...

Nobody outside Disney knows for sure. I am going to go out on a limb and say the decision was mostly because the show just isn't as popular as it used to be and they know this. It had consistently high ratings, but nothing like their flagship show "Suite Life On Deck" that dominated the majority of Disney Channel's coveted tween demographics. Not only this, but remember WOWP already has a DCOM -- One of Disney's highest rated DCOM'S ever next to HSM2 -- So, they can't be accused of favoritism. So, when weighing the costs of producing another one that may not be received as well as the first you can see why the decision was not that surprising given the new policy that is in effect.

Good points. For whatever it's worth though, I suspect the Good Luck Charlie movie will be the next DCOM to air whenever that may be. Speaking of GLC, they seem to be zipping through season 2 pretty quickly and surprisingly, there hasn't been an annoucement for a season 3 pickup yet. Although it seems to be doing well in the ratings so I don't know why they wouldn't. Also with Lemonade Mouth 2 in the works, it'd be smart to keep it on the air.

Lemonade Mouth 2 is in the works? When was the book released?! O_O

reply

Who said anything about a book? We're talking about the movie.

reply

How can they make a movie without the book? And I've seen a video of Mark Peter Hughes talking about the sequel to the book, not the movie.

reply

The same way they make any other movie. With a script.

reply

What about the story? Did they make their own story? Coz that would suck.

reply

To be honest, I really don't know. Just that they're making the movie. But they could make their own story if they wanted to.
