I told you it'd win the Oscar for Best Costumes!

And I'm telling you it'll lose Best Picture.

It's a pity, I loved the film, but let's get real. The nomination was a salute to Marvel Films for Excellence in the ARt of Making Money.

reply

Does it deserve the awards it has won?

It's a good film, but is it really heads and shoulders above all the other Marvel films?

reply

Excellence in the ARt of Making Money.

Hmm, well.... that’s not as annoying as all the anti-PC crying you see (somehow the bigillionaire Transformers franchise eluded this nom for years).

Anyway, congrats on it for winning Best Costume and now best Production Design. And yes, as someone who’s seen the other nominees (I was partial to Roma in the latter), I say Black Panther deserved these awards. I’m glad for this film, Marvel, and the comic book movie genre in general.

Now commence all the familiar whining by the anti-Hollywood incels who couldn’t care less about these awards but need to spread their own agenda! (And sure, maybe fair film snobs with no agenda will join the discussion). *sigh*

reply

If Roma had the best Production Design, in your opinion, how can it stand to reason that Black Panther deserved the award?

And no, I'm not anti-PC. I like Black Panther. I just don't think it's a masterpiece. So, please be open-minded and please don't create strawman arguments for people who disagree with you.

reply

"BP" isn't a masterpiece, but it's a damn good film, both fun and touching.

And I think the politics of the nomination are something like this... Marvel is wrapping up years of superhero films with "Infinity Wars", and the AMPAS would like to recognize them for making all that lovely money. But "IW" isn't a good enough film to nominate, and they don't expect "IW2" to be that good, either. So "BP" got the nom, partly because it's just plain good, and partly because yes, the racial issues. But mainly, it's about all those truckloads of money.

reply

I hate that political BS.

I wish the Academy would just give the Oscar to best film, rather than pandering or trying to send a message.

reply

Oh honey... sorry, but every award everywhere has politics involved. Even the Employee of the Month award given down at the convenience store on your corner has politics involved!

And the Oscars have money involved as well as industry politics. I've heard that "Roma" had an absolutely huge awards-promotion budget, for instance.

reply

It's hilarious that you just implied Black Panther was a better film than Infinity War.

reply

I do like it more.

reply

How? Ask the voters for starters.

But aight. I admired the Production Design of Roma more, but that doesn’t mean I found Black Panther’s nomination (and eventual win) any less deserving. In fact, I would have been fine with ANY of those films winning. They were all deserving, as far as I’m concerned. Simple as that. Is that good enough?

You know, I’ve read and heard all the criticism directed at BP’s nominations. Some of it fair, a lot of it not-so fair. Do I even think it was the best cbm of 2018? No. But I can see why it was nominated and I have NO issue with it whatsoever. It was a CULTURALLY SIGNIFICANT film beloved by BOTH critics and audiences. But yeah, all this Oscar love is hard to fathom. It only happened because of money (lol Otter), the racial aspect, politics ad nauseam... again, I’ve heard it all. And let me tell you, since the general consensus is that BP was a great film (not on online boards obviously), SO WHAT if its politics are the main reason the film got nominated? These are, after all, politics I say most movie audiences - except those dedicated to criticizing Hollywood for not preaching THEIR beliefs - agree with it.

You hate the political bs? I have some advice: don’t watch. It’s simple as that. Oh, but I bet you don’t even tune in. I have good reason to assume you only react to what you are already against. Political bs... yeah, actors simply call for more diversity and inclusiveness (what a bad agenda alright), wow how political! You can pretend you’re not coming from where I’m sensing you’re coming from, but I’ve noticed you use a lot of the same talking points as many of the hypocritical anti-PC crowd. So, nice try straw man. One more thing. I can already see both the anti-social justice and apparent “not anti-PC/social justice” people whining about the very well-deserved wins of Roma. Pathetic.

Btw, goddamn Spike Lee is looking slick! Raise those fists and fight the power, man!

this is just MY OPINION...

but this cements Black Panther has literally The most over praised Movie in The History Of Hollywood.

IMO Black Panther Is a very good movie...but as I've said in previous posts....IMO I do not believe its a 97% on RT, A+ cinemascore, 700 M + domestically, 7 Oscar Noms, and now 2 Wins film.

I said in another post after the 7 Noms were announces....that at this point, The level of OVER PRAISE the film is getting, it would seem fitting that It Wins Best Picture and a bunch of Oscars...

it seems were heading down that road.

for the record, you dont need to bombard me with replies, I completely understand I'm in the minority...The overwhelming Majority Love Black Panther and consider it great.

I just personally feel its a Good movie, But literally nowhere near as great as its STATS and data say...

IMO Black Panther truly is now officially the most over praised movie in Hollywood history...due to its cultural impact and subject matter, people WANT to love this movie and WANT it be be considered Great.

reply

Yup, I told you so!

I really wish I knew some place I could put real money on the Oscars.

reply

I truly expected it to win....IMO it was the ONLY ending that fits....

Winning Best Picture When IMO its not even a top 10 CBM...seemed like the perfect ending to IMO The most over praised movie in Hollywood history...

on the positive note...

DC fans just lost 1 of thier most desperate go to tactics...

when DC fans were at their most Butthurt, when Jealousy hit that at their worst, They went to the ALL TIME desperate claims of "DC had more Oscars than The Marvel Studios"...

I think the count now is 3 to 2 in favor of Marvel Studios....Unfortunately those 3 came with Black Panther

reply

I disagree, IMHO "BP" is definitely in my top ten favorite comic book movies!

But "genre prejudice" is a big thing with the AMPAS, they have zero respect for sci-fi or fantasy, and less for comic book movies, so it wasn't winning the big gong. They let the "Lord of the Rings" movies win, so they figure they've done the genre enough favors for the century.

reply

Yeah, cuz it was the favorite to win out of all the nominees (it wasn’t). Huge gamble! :/

Well now... all the incelites, snobs, and “fairer” critics (but mostly incelites) will do exactly as I predicted: and that is they’ll gloat over the fact that it didn’t win an award it wasn’t expected to win — yet it impressively received a nom for it and will always hold the distinction of being the first comic book film in history to receive a nomination for Best Picture. Not too shabby! This petty crowd couldn’t handle all of its success, but now they have a little something to predictably cheer about. Lol, how sad. And boy, I can just SEE all the outrage if it had actually won. Aww hell no! I bet that’s actually what the BP detractors WISHED FOR! I mean, to spend more time whining about something must be preferable 4 them.

Funny though, I see not a large number of people defending this movie’s award recognition online anyway-not on any of these icky movie chat boards. The conversation is mostly just nonstop hyperbole from all the expert critics; as I’ve mentioned before, so much of this whining comes from actual agenda-driven slobs who don’t care for Hollywood and their celebratory shows. Even apparently fair-minded Marvel fans are still upset it was BP that received these nominations and not other MCU films (to reiterate, it wouldn’t have been my first pick but it is for sure a quality film that’s as PRESTIGIOUS as a CBM can be). So, what does this all tell us? The internet loves to cry, and no one cries harder than those who hypocritically cry SJW 24/7. But also, hardly anyone was expecting or wanted BP to win. Still... surprise!!

On a similar note, you know damn well once these anti-BP/anti-SJW posters are done with this pitiful cheering, they’ll be back with their unquestionably asinine rampage/alt reich agenda against Captain Marvel. Or of course, they’ll go after these “white-genocide” films simultaneously. Face it, the ones doing all of this mindless trolling and review bombing CM are sensitive, superiority complex racist white dudes and misogynists. Plain and simple. And to make it clear to suckas who love twisting the words of others, I’m referring to those who have a CLEAR agenda against Captain Marvel, Black Panther and all so-called anti white films. Insignificant numbskulls.

Anyhow! Congrats to Black Panther on its deserving wins and overall monumental success. Won the most Oscars out of any superhero film in history? WAKANDA!!
