Bret Easton Ellis says Black Panther doesn't deserve Oscar nomination.

He is correct

reply

he is just saying what everybody already knows

reply

I agree. There are several other better, more deserving films.

Does anyone still care what professional provocateur Bret Easton Ellis says?

This is the guy who called 'Glee' a "puddle of AIDS" (don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of "Glee", but still...what does that even mean?)

reply

glee is gayyyyyy aka puddle of aidz

reply

Yeah, I got that.

I was trying to adduce a less homophobic interpretation, but I guess it doesn't exist seeing as BEE is a self-hating bisexual.

reply

First i'll say that i don't have any respect or regard for the Oscars or any of these elitist Hollywood award shows. Now as for the film itself I would say I enjoyed it and felt it was a better than the average superhero film but wasn't amazing.

The film certainly won't win and to me comes across as a patronizing gesture of "Hey we're so not racist because we nominated this black superhero movie for best film" which is more of a controversy than when they actually hand out the awards to pedo directors like Brian Singer

reply

Learn what pedophile means before you incorrectly and ignorantly use it about a man who's never been arrested for any sex crime. Accusations aren't facts, and lately we've seen plenty of proven false sexual allegations in the news to show that people do like for various reasons. Singer might have done some shady stuff, but we don't live in a world where conviction comes after simple allegations and no evidence.

reply

Okay. My fault. "Accused and probable Hollywood pedo Bryan Singer". The fact that he was closely linked up with verified Hollywood pedos like Marc Collins-Rectom & others and has had accusations against him since the 90s is very telling & disreputable.

People have been convicted in the court of public opinion & even legally charged for less which oddly enough includes another long time buddy & fellow "alleged" Hollywood pervert Kevin Spacey.

So yeah the arbitrary pass the likes of Singer are given is indicative of Hollywood's reputation of a degenerate & corrupt institution that has always protected the powerful sickos & degenerates within the industry.

reply

I'm not saying he didn't do it, but you seem to be ok with the court of public opinion, and I'm not. Also, the accusers were well past puberty, so that's isn't pedophilia, and they were all past the age of consent, so unless they flat out refused his advanced and he continued to pursue them, it's a much more grey situation. Words matter, and if it turns out the accusations we're false, as we've seen in the past, those are hard words to take back and have already done the damage. Let's let the law be the law, and if these accusations are credible, I'd assume there would be some LEGAL action taken against him. We can't pretend we don't live in a world where people are willing to destroy someone for financial gain. Again, maybe he did it, but you've already had the trial and conviction in you're head. I'm sure you'd want a little more consideration to facts vs accusations if you were in his shoes.

reply

Moving past the semantics of pedophilia he has in fact been accused of sexually assaulting underage boys regardless of if he has also been accused of assaulting some when they were past the age of consent. I'm certainly not in support of convictions via court of public opinion. Baseless false accusations without any evidence are certainly a thing. I am however much more inclined to take seriously Singer's decades long accusations & close associations with verified Hollywood sexual predators.

What a RACIST!

reply

I agree!
It’s not even in the top five Marvel films

reply

It doesn’t, in terms of quality.

Then again, who cares what Bret Easton Ellis thinks?

He’s a good author who has had a few of his books adapted for films, but he’s no filmmaker himself and a poor screenwriter. He’s basically just a gossipy industry insider.
