A friendly message to the people who are enraged that "Black Panther" was nominated for Best Picture:

I know that you guys don't have the best social skills, and don't have the most acute awareness of what topics are considered unfit for polite company, don't always realize when you've offended someone, and don't have a good grasp of why people come to dislike you in real life. Of course if you have any interest in improving your social skills and learning how to get people to actually like you, the best thing that can happen to you is someone being honest with you about social questions. So I'm going to be that nice, friendly, instructive person who just wants you to have a better life, and tell you...

YOU GUYS ARE MAKING ASSES OF YOURSELVES.

By hating on "Black Panther" the way you are, a light comic book movie that's done nothing but make people happy and bring money into the pockets of the people that made it, you're making yourself look like jealous, petty, racist, tiny-minded assholes, with tastes in entertainment and discursive skills that would embarrass a sixth-grader.

There. You're welcome.

Black Panther wasn't even the best superhero movie of 2018 so to claim it was the best of ALL the movies is just a joke.

But you know black lives matter blah blah, lets throw the blacks a bone so they stop whining for a few minutes, whatever.

That's not a good start.

"YOU GUYS ARE MAKING ASSES OF YOURSELVES"

How ironic.

I'm not enraged I think it's hilarious that the movie industry is full of a bunch of pussies that caters to special interest groups to base their movie selections.

We’re under a Super Blood Wolf Full Moon these days, Otter. It’s a complete lunar eclipse with the moon at perigee (the closest the moon gets to the earth, hence, increased gravitational influence). People go wacko. All the cages are open on a holiday weekend. Folks file lawsuits over football games. I think that you and I would agree that there are other superhero movies—like Superman: The Movie, Superman II, Wonder Woman, and I am not conversant in Marvelspeak, but I would venture Spider-man II, X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Origins: Wolverine and Logan—that are better and more deserving films; but they served the purpose of forcing the Academy to stop ignoring this genre. Perhaps we can now all move forward.

Thanks for your rant about social skills. A shame that so few any longer know what the phrase means. If you want to add anything about grammar, punctuation, diction and sentence fragments, please be my guest.

Well there's a surprise, receiving a sensible and articulate response to my trolling!

So I regret I must disagree with some of your points, but politely, I promise. IMHO "Superman" and "Superman II" are the best comic book movies ever made and we shall not see their like again, but "Black Panther" is right up near the top of the list for more recent ones. Most comic book movies are fun but few are great, and I'd definitely put "Black Panther" in the top five, and possibly at #2 of all the comic book movies made in the last 20 years. It's a terrific film, exciting and having a heart and a point, and it's just delicious to look at (I hope it wins for costume and production design). The only Marvel recent comic book film that I'd say is absolutely better is "Guardians of the Galaxy", which was just about perfect.

And FYI I really don't think much of "X-Men: First Class". Did you know that the villain was likely to survive the final battle? The writers thought they were so fucking clever for coming up with that, but it wouldn't necessarily be fatal. It's little things like that that turn you off a movie.

It’s always a pleasure to have a civil response, Otter. Thank you.

reply

It's a good popcorn movie, best picture is for the best in film. The whole line up this year is unbelievably lackluster.

reply

Why do you assume that anyone not in support of this Oscar nomination hates the movie?

There is a very large spectrum between hating a film and it being Oscar-worthy, and BP wasn't even the best movie in its genre last year.

Otter: My friendly message to you is that you are a rotten piece of shit for suggesting anyone is racist for objecting to this. In my mind I think you'd have to be pretty brainless to NOT object to this. You're not impressing anyone with your obsession of 'not looking racist', you tool.
