Congratulations to Ryan Coogler.

I trashed it because it wasn't a good movie. I'm not a Marvel vs. DC guy either, I like them both. But the movie had terrible special effects, a story with a terrible message, forgettable action scenes, average acting (although the lead was very solid), and overall didn't seem like it was put together well enough to be considered one of the 8 nominees.

Here are the movies I thought deserved it. Some were nominated, some weren't.

Leave No Trace
First Reformed

A good movie but nothing too spectacular. Then again most of the recent Best Picture winners fit that description so I dn't see an issue nominating BP. Let's be honest no way this will win an Oscar that's that important. The more noms BP gets the chances are it will win less Oscars. They gave it seven noms just because they can't be called racist, that's all. Best picture nomination is there just so it has at least one biggie nomination under its belt and it's not all technical minor noms.

The Oscars have lost their relevance long ago, now it's mostly all about the message a movie sends and not about the quality.

Well at least a Marvel movie will win at least one figurine so those DC zealots won't have an argument saying SS won one. Though a category like best costumes is irrelevant, we know what the main categories are and unless we're talking about something revolutionary new groundbreaking achievement that lasts (kinda like the special effects that The Matrix won 20 years ago) the rest of the categories aren't that big of a deal - no disrespect to the winners but let's be honest here.

Not surprising after that fish fetish movie won last year. The Dark Knight and Logan, the only true superhero masterpieces were shunned. Anyone would be shaking their head knowing that.
