Surprisingly Bad....

I actually believed the hype on this one. I blindly bought the DVD. What a mistake. The horrible overacting and cartoonish fight coreography were only eclipsed by the terrible and inconsistent accents.

A better title would have been "Double Oh Panther and His Sister M". What was with the pathetic James Bond ripoff? I don't even remember him having a sister, let alone a mother. I'm pretty sure she died when he was young and he had a step mom who ran away or cheated on his father or something similar.

Even if I overlooked the disappointments I just mentioned, the biggest travesty was the idiotic decision to give him super strength. What a moronic idea. Why completely change the character? He's a master in many forms of combat and has the ability to think far ahead of everyone else. He also does have advanced technology thanks to vibranium, but that was grotesquely exaggerated here. It wasn't necessary to nonsensically give him the strength to lift a moving car, because he ate a magic flower. What idiot thought this was a good idea? I think this is even more ridiculous than Captain America being able to overpower a helicopter with one arm.

And speaking of powers, which he's not supposed to have, didn't he find all superheroes a threat to Wakanda? So giving him super strength is even more idiotic under those circumstances.

Did this character need this idiotic change? No. So why take a perfectly good character and distort it? I'm normally at least in some agreement with the majority, but this time I couldn't disagree more. They bastardized an otherwise great character.

captain America does not have super powers. According to stan Lee the super soilder gave him PEAK human performance. And it wore off while he was frozen. Cap stays in shape through hard work and American values. The helicoptyer scene is way overblown. Choppers have low torq. I can name numerios scenes from Arnold to bruce Lee movies that are more unbelivable.
The only super power cap has is his undying American spirit.

Who said Captain America had super powers?

As far as the super soldier serum, it does not give him the strenght to overpower a helicopter attempting to take off. He grabbed the helicopter, then grabbed the building and stopped it from leaving. I've seen nothing in a Bruce Lee, or Arnold, movie more ludicrous.

As far as the serum wearing off. That was never part of the story for most of Cap's history. I've read over 50 years of stories and that was never mentioned. I can only assume that was another moronic storyline created within thebl last 20 years by pathetic writers who can't create their own characters so they drastically change the creations of others, as if that makes them creative.

If he is super human hes pretty weak . Batrok a normal man almost beat him.

reply

Exactly. So the fact they showed him on screen, overpowering a helicopter trying to take off, is ridiculous.

I wouldn't call it bad, it's just no where near where the hype puts it. I noticed the 007-isms in the "Q" sequence and the Korean operation. But the comparisons are understandable in light of Wakanda's ultra-high tech and the fact that Bond was always a sorta human super-man.

I didn't really care about the super-strength thing. If he's not throwing around tanks it makes little difference. And the accents aren't anything to nitpick over.

It's a solid superhero 'origin' movie set apart by an African protagonist, cast and locale; it's just no where near as great as the hype made it out to be. It's greatest weakness is that it's just not that involving, although it's likable in ways and has some interesting ideas. Killmonger was easily the most interesting character.
