Black Panther Blu-Ray/4K Coming May 15th

My guess is that of course it will still be in theaters but what version will I get?

No details were announced as to what will be on the disk and as of late Marvel/Disney has cut down most all of the extras that make a home release special and all you get currently is the normal deleted scenes, gag reals, director commentary, etc, etc.

One would think that to stimulate the market they would add something more substantial and again make the home release more immersive.

Challenge Day for me: Did anyone see it in 3D and was the experience worth it?

The 3D was pretty good, like most Marvel movies. People complain about the effects in the climatic battle in the movie (presumably in 2D), but I didn't notice any problems in 3D.

It looks like "Black Panther" will not be getting a US 3D Blu-ray release. "Thor: Ragnarok" didn't either, I had to order it from Amazon UK. I just now pre-ordered the "Black Panther" 2D/3D combo pack from Amazon UK, $27.99 (£19.74) including shipping. The price for Ragnarok went down during pre-order, so maybe this one will, too. It took around an extra week for Ragnarok to be delivered to the US from the UK.

I realize that the home market for 3D is quite small as compared to DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital. I realize that 4K is the new banner the industry is flying even though 8K and higher is just around the corner but why the total aversion to 3D in the states?

I bought the combo packages myself and paid the extra $5.00 for the DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital. Why do they now unbundle the DVD and no longer offer a 3D combo package? It's not like they weren't charging you for the media.

reply

I used to buy the combo packs with DVD, too, and continued to buy the separate DVDs when they started unbundling (I stopped with Ant-man, though). The "Doctor Strange" combo with 2D/3D/DVD/Digital was a nice surprise.

Weird, the release date for Black Panther (all disc formats) at Amazon.uk has changed to June 11.

reply

That's almost a month and doesn't make any sense. Amazon.us didn't have an entry until late last night and still doesn't show any packaging. I think they're scrambling to get their access to inventory together. Marvel/Disney is being aggressive in getting it out there.

The Marvel website (us) lists Target / Best-Buy / Wal-Mart but no Amazon. Looks like a deal has been struck for domestic US buyers? Just weird.

reply

Amazon.com (USA) is always late to list Marvel movie releases and they currently only have a pre-order available for the Amazon video version of Black Panther. And it looks like the release date for the home video disc version of Black Panther in the UK has been set for June 11. That's kinda sucky, my delivery date has been pushed back to around June 22.

Still no package artwork, no details (besides pricing) and no Amazon exclusive deals.

Oh what will I ever do? How will I decide what to buy?

Maybe I should ask my Alexa?

Don't try that with Alexa.
