Hit List was terrible

It really killed the second season. Terrible music and uninspiring story.
Not to mention Jimmy was the worst character in the show. Karen was at least likable in season one. The second season she became irrelevant.
The show should have been about Bombshell and the difficulties of making a Broadway musical.
Who cares about Hit List? It's rise to Broadway was too easy, especially since we just spent an entire season getting one musical from workshop to previews. It felt like they threw in Kyle's death just to justify its meteoric rise to Broadway.

I completely agree with most of your points. I did kind of like the idea of a rival play against bobshell though. It made for competiton.
But i HATED jimmy. I have no idea why so many people bitched about Katherine McPhee's character because she honestly seemed like a normal "i want to be famous, but also taken seriously" young star. She was pretty relatable. The only times were she weren't were when characters on the show were killing themselves over telling her how awesome she was.

I want another season of Smash.

I bet your wondering what a place like this is doing in a girl like -The Mummy

I guess she was relatable...if you can relate to the ostensibly nice girl who is really a passive-aggressive phony  I could go on and on about why Karen sucked as a character, but what hurt her the most was Katherine McPhee. She was not an objectively bad actor (unlike the kid who played Leo- yikes), but she was bland as hell. Especially compared to real life Broadway vets like Megan Hilty...

Anyway, we can agree that Jimmy was terrible (poor Jeremy Jordan- I hope movie stardom finds him). Aggressive bordering on abusive, selfish, self-destructive, and a drama queen to boot. Season 2 was doomed to fail thanks to him and Hitlist.

Stop! Manners time.

I liked season 2 better than the first along with the music as well. Jeremy Jordan's voice is phenomenal.

Have to agree, I much preferred the second season. I didn't even realize Jimmy was such a hated character until coming back to this board later on. I thought he was great - hot, very talented, and every song they gave him was amazing.

I agree with you. The Hit List songs were terrible, nobody could believe that piece of crap could be nominated for the Tony Awards.

reply

Aww. Some of the songs are absolutely fantastic - I fell in love with Joe Iconis through Smash.

The problem was more everything else. And there is a LOT of "everything else" to make a production. Right on that it would never be nominated. Mostly I'm still offended that they ripped off RENT that blatantly and yet shallowly, and still had the gall to think there was merit and truth in there somewhere.

They ruined the show with Hitlist.
