Guess what, a sequel of Chappie is coming in the end of 2018. It's not a joke, On February 21st, 2016. Neill Blomkamp announced that he'll be doing Chappie 2. http://daterelease.net/chappie-2-release-date/

Like his earlier District 9, this film is for thinkers, NOT the typical action crowd.

The concepts of emergence of artificial consciousness, learning, etc are spot on.

I just wish I had paid to see this at the theater.

I did not care for the first one and i would not have guessed there was enough interest to consider a sequel. I used to really want a dequ9to District 9, but then i realized it is more intere9if the fates of the characters is not spelled out. The mystery and anticipation is better than the resolution.

No it isn't. He admitted on Twitter that it was a joke. The movie "didn't do well enough" to warrant a sequel.

Well, i messaged Neill Blomkamp on Twitter telling him to make the sequel to Chappie because there was a cliffhanger at the end in which Yolandi turns into a robot and her consciousness was brought over to the robot and Chappie turns the robot on. And also that if was to release the sequel then people and critics would love it and told him if that was a deal and no response yet... So i am still waiting to see if he accepts the deal or not.
