Two plot holes regarding batteries:

1. Seems like it shouldn't be too hard to find a way to charge Chappie's battery.

2. Assuming there is no way to charge his battery and the robot bodies are designed not to last, won't Chappie, Deon and Yolandi all die soon?

Yeah a stupid plot device.

1. Chappie's body is fused to his battery due to the RPG launcher that hit him in the chest, a relatively believable reason to not be able to recharge or replace it.

2. The robot bodies weren't "designed not to last". Reread above.

They could have come up with a way to charge it.
