LOL @ "PS4 Cluster"

Ummm yeahhh PS4s can't be used in that way. Just thought that was quite a bit silly. There may be other stupid things in the film but I think this is the worst one. I guess the writers thought that since PS3s can operate in a cluster (they can and have totally different architecture) that a "PS4 cluster" must be one-upping that since the PS4 is newer

PS4s are basically just PCs based on a Jaguar processor (with 8 cores), nothing the same as the Cell processor in the PS3. There's no "cluster" computing with multiple PS4s. Even if you wanted to use the processing power of multiple PS4s, it would be downright stupid since other much faster x86 CPUs are out there--multiple PS4s doesn't really get you anything.

Apart from that...Robocop much? Film seems like too much of a rip-off of that(Moore/Moose = Jones/ED-209; Patel/Chappie = Morton/Robocop), among others. As someone else on here said, it's like a hodge podge of a few different movies.

It's a movie.. not a documentary. There's this thing called "artistic license" and "suspension of disbelief" (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suspension_of_disbelief)
This movie is great and more of a portrayal of life in Johannesburg.. much like his other movie, District 9.

Nobody cares, nerd.

And apart from your ps4 rant.."Robocop much?" Really? Hit puberty much? Since people still say that all the time..like, totally, "Clarissa Explains it All", much?

Cool story, geek.

Of all the flaws this movie has, you land on this one?

I saw that "PS4" thing flash on the screen too and had a chuckle.

Yeah, this is like a mashup of "Short Circuit" and "Robocop". I didn't think too much of it, but it didn't outright suck, either. It's another film somewhere in the middle between "excellent" and "good" on one side and "fair" and "poor" on the other.

All Art is pretense.

Neill Blomkamp has stated multiple times his love for RoboCop.

So no $hit RoboCop much?

reply

Erm... why would you say something as silly as what you did.

You can use ANY computer with network access to build a cluster out of. You could make a cluster out of Arduinos if you wanted, and those things don't have a ton of high end features... but put enough of them together and that's a lot of crunching power.

What do you think most clusters are? You don't need some super duper fancy machine with a pimped out GPU to use in a cluster... sure, those may be faster, but Chappie had a whole pile of PS4s, so that's what he used.
