i understand the confusion

I can see why this movie might be boring to a lot of people, but I actually knew Jeff Buckley personally. I met him in 1992 and we remained good friends until his death in 1997. I think you would have to know him and his quirks to appreciate the film. For me, it was very emotional for me to watch. Painful actually. I am very impressed with Penn's impersonation of Jeff's singing. Spot on. I give the film a 9.3.

I never got to meet or know Jeff, but as a fan of 20+ years, I totally believed Penn's performance. Over the years of listening to his music, watching videos and reading about Jeff, that is exactly how I imagined him. As I was watching, though, I wondered if this film would be interesting to anyone who wasn't a fan.

Thanks for the serious thoughts on the film. I think the tone of the film is spot on, the acting, the dialogue and all that kind of stuff. That scene in the record shop was amazing.

But the script wasn't as good as everything else. It was good just not GREAT in the way the other aspects were. I give the film 7/10. I give the acting of the lead 9/10. It has to be one of the best performance of an actor playing a musician ever.
