What was the issue with the daughter?

I couldn't understand why the father didn't want her to have the same as the boys.
Was she a child from another marriage?

reply

I believe so. They never explicitly said it but it was well hinted.

And that the stepfather raped her once.

The mom mentioned to him at some point that he's the only father she's ever known.

It wasn't hinted, it was stated outright. Rebecca told Paris that she had a two year old when she met him.

Somehow I missed that line, but that would've helped me to understand cuz I thought it was an unwanted liaison during their early marriage - seemed like that short scene was done on the 'same' couch in their house.

Mason rapes the stepdaughter and they never bring it up again. He's not seriously reprimanded for it. No cops? No divorce attorneys? Nothing.

Also, there was no character arc. When Rebecca and her daughter talk about overcoming something, they just talk about it. Nothing is overcame. Also, Mason's still an *beep* Even, at the funeral when he looks at Rebecca's photo on top of her coffin, he has an angry look on his face and acts very alert and looking rapidly around him when Rebecca's lawyer tells the daughter that she signed all her stuff over to her.
