Why is "Raccoon" the only main character without a proper name ?

Were the writers too lazy to think of one,or is there a "deeper" reason?

What about Mole? His name was Mole

Mole doesn't either. I think it was lazy screenwriting.

It might have been meant as a temporary placeholder that never got filled in (because of laziness and poor management).

The writer of the animated G.I. Joe: The Movie (1987) penned "Cobra-La" as a temporary placeholder for the hidden civilization backing Cobra for until he could think up something good, but to his regret the higher-ups liked it too much to let him put in something proper.
