Suggestion for an ending that might have been....

IMO, the whole movie was done well and the ending as it stands, worked for me. But if you will, imagine this alternate ending:

Uncle Albert gets up out of lawn chair after waving goodbye to his brother Woody. He enters the house and the screen door slams shut behind home causing his two sons to look up from watching TV.

Uncle Albert: "Hey Bart and Cole, I just saw your Uncle Woody driving home in a new pickup truck. He was wearing a hat that said "Prize Winnger" and I think I saw a box with a new air-compressor in the back."

Bart and Cole exchange shocked looks....

Fade to black.

I liked the ending and now that you mention it I bet he does that exact thing. He couldn't keep that news quiet. It would have added to the ending but I liked how they changed places in the road.

The focus needed to stay on the father and son at the very end, but it does give us room to imagine the reactions that must have followed.
