Why on earth is the film rated so low?

I just got done watching it and I thought it was well-crafted and nicely paced, with a powerful narrative impact and a very strong lead performance by the young actress playing Ashley. Some of the supporting actors were kind of hokey, yes, but overall I'd call it a very quality little short that did what it set out to do, and I won't be forgetting that ending for a long time.

So what gives? Are people who disagree with the film's message coming to its IMDB page to give artificially low ratings regardless of its actual quality, or what? That's pretty dishonest, if you ask me.

I agree. I thought it was extremely emotional and moving.

Me too. I think the idea is brilliant.

Maybe it was because gay being straight and straight being gay was a little confusing...how did they make the kids they've got? But I think the idea was to put bullies or homophobic people in the homosexual's (or in this case heterosexual's) place. (Maybe I'm stating the obvious??) Thought it was very emotional and it's very sad to think that some homosexual people go through this, I thought people were more tolerant these days!

they mention that relations between the opposite sex are wrong outside of the "breeding season" so they do touch on how the kids are born

My biggest problem was the simplistic way they treated gender roles, as just flipped...except when they weren't...because girls (even skinny ones) play football in this world, and boys do drama...except we also see boys playing basketball...

IMDB uses "weighted" averages.

Of all the people who actually voted, if you check the numbers, the actual average is 8. So, by a general population, this film is an 8(which seems pretty fair--it was good, could've been better).

However, as the "top 1000" IMDB voters get their votes weighted more heavily, anything they decide is drifted their way. You'll note, when you're checking statistics, that they normally drift things lower than the average, at least, slightly.

As this has VERY few votes, a mere handful(perhaps, even 1!) "top voter" giving this a poor(maybe even dismal!) vote would outweigh dozens, perhaps even hundreds or thousands of votes.

As this has fewer than 500 votes, it's quite certain some "top voter" dragged this down dramatically.

Otherwise, the rest of humanity generally agrees, this movie is an 8.
