Could have been a "Bad Boys" remake

I'm talking, of course, about the Sean Penn "Bad Boys" not the Smith/Lawrence garbo. It's essentially the same exact movie, just instead of the antagonist getting himself locked up to get revenge, in this one it's the opposite. In the end in both films the hero wins the day and becomes the new BMOC.

I did enjoy the film though. The fight scenes in particular were realistic and very well filmed. Some of the acting was pretty sketchy, but I thought the lead did a good job portraying the anguish and blind hatred one would feel in his situation. Anytime one of his targets was nearby he could barely control himself from attacking them even though it wasn't the right time or place to dispatch them. Definitely worth watching if you like prison movies and even if you don't.
