26 year old playing 16, okay, I guess?

No good 16 year actresses in Hollywood I guess?

reply

Or maybe all of them read the script and ran away screaming.

What's weird is Chenoweth signed on.

But, yay, this chick can still play a teen.

So if nobody told you that she was in her mid 20s and asked you or anybody that seen the movie to guess her age I think most people including myself would have to say 16-18 range.

I think she did an excellent job portraying this character.

Another actress that plays a lot younger character than her real age is Allison Lohman. Talented as well.

Its pathetic and unreal. As an actress who is nearly 27 she should be ashamed to still be playing these infantile roles. Where is her ambition?
Then you would probably have hated Gabrielle Carteris when she was in the original Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990). She was 29 playing a 16 year old. She really did look the part too.

If it's easy to mistake someone as being younger than they really are, then it's nothing to be ashamed of when playing the role of a younger person. Heck, there are instances where an older person could play the role of a younger person and it would work just fine. Take Robin Williams playing a fifth grader in the movie Jack (1996) for example.

Ever seen the show Jack & Bobby (2004) or what about an episode of SVU titled Rockabye (2005)? Actress Keri Lynn Pratt played the role of a teenager in both of them while she was already in her mid 20's.

I've seen some shows/movies and thought that an actress was rather attractive but then also though, "Oh gawd she's probably in her mid teens" only to find out that she's already in her 20's, which made me feel better for admiring her looks. Some I've doubled checked on because I found it very hard to believe that they were in their 20's when they really did look to be in their mid teens. Some actresses (and some actors) just have that look where you will instantly believe that they are much younger (or older, depending) than they really are.

As for ambition, by taking on roles where she has to pretend to be a teenager and such, she is actually proving her talent. How many adults do you know would be able to successfully pull off acting like a rebellious teen once they are already in their 20's and forgotten what it's like to not have the freedom they've gotten accustomed to? Acting is more than just repeating lines, it's also putting emotion and personality in to it. Looking timid or confused (as a teenager) is different than looking timid or confused as an adult. A teenage temper tantrum is different from that of an adult. It takes talent to get it right. The more she proves herself with roles in 'not so big movies', the more likely she is to get herself into a role that will really launch her career into something huge. She'll have a portfolio that demonstrates her abilities and that's something you can't get by being picky and only choosing roles you believe will hit you the jackpot right from the start.

When Olesya Rulin was in the first High School Musical movie, do you really think she only auditioned for it because she somehow knew it would be a major success? No. She was able to get some acting under her belt and because it became a success (with two sequels), she got her name out there. All she needs now, aside from demonstrating that she wasn't "carried" by the movies, is a role that let's her really put in her best effort (one that is a better grade than Family Weekend) and I bet she'll become a wanted actress for many projects.

Don't understate actors and their decisions to be in certain movies. Rather often, those 'lame roles' help someone get noticed and it jump starts their career.

Ambition? First of all 27 isn't even that old. It's a paying job in the field she loves: Acting.

How old are you that this annoys you so much? You must still be in High School if you don't understand how acting and age works. What are you going to do at 27 get a wheelchair?

In your logic then, can nobody play a murderer unless they are one? Or a cheerleader or a football player?

She is "barely legal" LOL!!!!

16 year old actors are only allowed to work a maximum of about 6 hours a day, plus have to have a tutor on set, so in order to shoot longer days older actors are used.

it's not about there not being young actors, it's that using a young actress in a role with as much screentime becomes very tedious and severely limits the amount of time you have to work with them.

it becomes a necessity to hire slightly older actors to play the role. this film was shot on a rather small budget so they had to keep the shooting schedule as short as possible.

she is much more convincing as a 16 year old that many other roles i've seen. namely Tom welling on smallville

So just get an 18-year-old. lol.

This is almost as bad as Julie Benz milking the playing-a-teen for as long as she did.

Regarding Smallville, I haven't watched season 1 in quite a while, but I seem to remember them bing somewhat vague about the ages of Pete, Clark and others for the first season or two.

she fit the role, if you didnt know she was mid twenties going into it it'd never be an issue.

and clark was supposed to be 14 in the pilot episode of Smallville. i believe tom welling was late twenties at the time.

reply

She does look like Alexis Bledel.

reply

When I saw the trailer, she looked way too old to be 16. I understand in "High School Musical" she could pass, but not now.

reply

She was 24 at the time of filming, and age is just a number, anyway. I'm 4 years older than her and people I don't know think I'm 15 or 16.

-Dad, who's that?
-Oh, that? One of my patients. He's...sick.
-Will he live?
-It's looking grim.

reply

People no longer ask me for ID now that my hair has started to turn grey. Used to annoy the hell out of me when I was younger, but when I turned 30 and people still thought I was a late-teen, it wasn't a bad compliment.
Unfortunately this mop on top of my head isn't playing along. If I don't watch it I'll reach the big Four Oh and people will ask me for my old age bus pass. Erk.

Point is - the age you look is a perceptual thing. Alyson Hannigan is only three months younger than I am, and how old was she when she was "in High School" for series 1-3 of Buffy?

reply

last year I was in vegas and I was carded a few times in the casino while playing the slots to see if I was of age which is weird since I am in my 30's. I don't look that young but it was kind of funny

reply

Heh. I'm 27. In my teens, I hated it when people called me "kid". The first time I got called "bro" was great. The first time I was called "mister", not so great. LOL Nowadays it's a compliment when I get mistaken for a university student. :P

reply

Honestly I would have thought she was 18 or 19 until I looked her up. She definitely plays it off well enough for the role.
