What a selfish bitch Dr. Kate is...

Are we supposed to sympathize with her just because she's a main character?

So I just finished season 1. Kate's husband Harrison has made several attempts to spend time with her despite both of them having very busy jobs. Kate has never reciprocated.

The show goes on to emphasize the fact that Kate is becoming more and more distant (no longer kissing him on the lips, or saying "I love you"). So Harrison does what seems to be logical, protecting his assets in case of a divorce. This infuriates Kate, and she stops talking to him.

Harrison then attempts to save their marriage by seeking a job for Kate in Texas with the new company he will be the CEO of, but Kate refuses to go because that clinic is sooooooooooo important (as if she can't save lives at any other hospital/ clinic). Then in order to save his marriage to Kate Harrison turns down the CEO job . Then Michael asks Kate if saving the marriage is what she wants. And Kate is unable to answer.

So in short, she's been a lousy spouse, refuses to compromise, then has her husband lose out on a big job because of something she isn't sure she even wants to save? What the hell?

And we the viewers are supposed to be all "Hoorah, team Kate Sykora!!!!"?

Your title is a bit blunt, but I do agree with you. He has tried to make a difficult marriage work any way he can. She has done nothing to save the marriage. And to add a crippling insult to injury she doesn't care that he turned down the job. There is nothing else he could have done. She was clearly in the position to find a clinic where his job was. His job offer is a once in a lifetime offer. There are clinics to help the poor everywhere.

A no-brainer for the sensible, caring person. Dr. Kate doesn't deserve the guy. He could do so much better.

She didn't do anything to save the marriage because she didn't want to, because she's in love with Michael. I think that's why she lashed out at Harrison after she found out that he had met with the divorce lawyer - in a way I think she was glad of the excuse to end the marriage. She doesn't want to admit it, though, particularly since Michael essentially told her that their kiss was a mistake and that they should only be colleagues.

If there'd been a second season, I guess Kate and Michael might have actually opened up about their feelings for each other, and Kate might have admitted to Harrison that she didn't want to be married to him any more.

But she let him turn down the opportunity of a life time. A friend might change jobs for a friend who needed them to come along for help. All she could think about was herself. Although the title of this thread is a bit blunt, it pretty much hits the nail on the head.
