the annoying security dick from 'outcasts' debacle

He is an atrocious actor. Sadly he makes the doctor come across as an incompetent cowardly, fool! Plus this is further proof that izzard still can't act for toffee - he should stick to stand up, charity marathons and left wing politics!

"Sadly he makes the doctor come across as an incompetent cowardly, fool!"

Did you not pause to consider this might have been intentional?

reply

The problem with your point is that the character of the doctor is written neither as cowardly or foolish so the OP had good reason to be displeased with the depiction.

reply

Only if the scriptwriter havent actually read the book.

I've seen the actor, Daniel Mays in a few things, he seems to be a decent actor to me.

The doctor came across as an incompetent coward because that's how he was written in this adaptation, just as the squire written as a greedy, selfish dick.

reply

Exactly. He even says he's a coward and behaved like one when he didn't defend the boy. And when he was really nervous in the hut, and had to be made to point the gun out of the window. I thought the doctor was played exactly as the script dictated him.

reply

Agree with all responders. Daniel Mays did a wonderful job in this as he's done in anything else I've seen him in. He certainly is the quintessential "every man" and plays his roles beautifully.

reply

This is Mays best performance and shows he is capable of talking properly!

reply

OP, seeing as most of your posts are about the wonderfully acted Coronation Street, maybe the idiot who plays Dev would have been a better choice?

reply

I have to disagree with the OP. Although I didn't think much of Daniel Mays in Outcasts (nor the rest of that particular show, for that matter), I thought he was very good in this, and clearly played the part that he was playing.

Eddie Izzard was also excellent as Silver. He played him with just the right amount of menace, but also gave him some redeeming features too, which all of us have to some extent! (I don't think he'll be doing too many more charity marathons though as they must take far too long with only one leg!).
