One thing i didn't understand-

You know there is a big picture in their apartment of Siobhan, well in one episode, Bridget was staring at it and Juliet came out and she said "Big sister is watching you"
Why would she say that if she thought Bridget was Siobhan, surely she'd just think that Siobhan was looking at her own picture.

I took it as Juliet meaning she thought Siobhan was too young to be her step-mother....more like the age of a big sister.

"It's better to be hated for who you are than be loved for who you aren't."

I thought it was a play on words like instead of "big brother" is watching you big sister like everyone is watching everyone...( a way to be witty/bad writing)...

It is an allusion to 1984, the novel by George Orwell. If you take a close look at the classroom scenes involving Juliet and Mr Carpenter, I believe that you will find an image of Orwell (real name: Eric Blair) pinned to a notice board somewhere. That would suggest that Juliet would be at least familiar with the literary reference, regardless of whether or not she has read the novel, which one would strongly suspect that she has not, as Juliet is not the type of girl who would waste her time reading morbid, dystopian novels, not for a moment suggesting that she isn't bright.

It's a reference to the novel 1984 where the totalitarian state was lead by a figure named "Big Brother" who watched over the people and whose face was plastered all over the place.

Unless Alpert's covered in bacon grease, I don't think Hugo can track anything.
