Not too bright future for Jason (spoiler)

It's scary how it came full circle. Jason starts riding a motorcycle to feel more connected to his biological father. He obtained money to buy said bicycle by taking it from someone at gunpoint. Just like his father.

Seeing as he's a dropout, Jason definitely doesn't have the education to get a decent job, so it's quite likely he is planning to follow his drifter father's footsteps. Maybe knock up some poor girl and barge his way into his kid's life saying: "he needs his real father, I grew up without my biological father and look how I turned out."

Kind of a hauntingly beautiful shot of him riding off into the horizon on his motorcycle. Liberating moment for the character but at the same time so sad for the audience to watch as we realize he will inevitably become a criminal drifter just like his father. This was one powerful movie that really stuck with me.

You people who talk about "riding off into the horizon" are very stupid. Do you even know what "horizon" means? We never see NO HORIZON for crying out loud. We don't see a horizon line, we don't see the sky, we don't see the sun, we don't see jack. We only see the road and him riding the motorcycle SIDEWAYS ... And a moutain in from of him perhaps. No HORIZON. Get it straight.

I agree. Jason actually had a a good setup. he had a mother and stepdad who loved him. I understand he wanted to connect with his real father BUT lets face it Luke was a criminal/drifter. Jason most likely is gonna turn out like his father just because he wants to connect with him which is tragic in a way

I remain hopeful that in the world of this film Jason found peace with that motorcycle and learning the little of his Fathers history, and the cop seeming so remorseful. That maybe the death of his Father was not something so easily forgotten.

It was so haunting and beautiful those last 2-3 minutes. The shot of his Mother recieving the mail had the tears start flowing. Then with that last one of him on the motorcycle and heading out west, it left such a strong effect on me. I like to think it was a chance out there, west, for him to reshape his identity and create a life for himself.

I Jason felt his father loved him per the photograph. They looked sincerely happy and Jason knows he can have that kind of life as long as he doesn't end up doing something desperate like his father.
I want to stay optimistic that Jason will want to be like his father and want to be a father himself one day without the crime. He can always learn a trade and make a decent living.
Great Movie.

I don't know. Perhaps he learned from his father's mistakes. The glass is half full.
