How do I make sure my kid is not a F up?

Kofi was a good father figure and a loving husband. It's evident when showing the family having dinner together and the one on one conversation with Goslins kid. These things are pretty important in a childs development yet the kid is a total screw up. How do you explain this when you have supporting parents your whole life. Up to when he's in High School all he knows is that his dad died in a car accident. That alone does not trigger drug abuse.

Kofi was a good father, but it was not his father and it showed. You know the scene when AJ makes fun of Kofi? That has surely happened before, and it's not like he needs anyone pointing out for him, Jason knows very well Kofi is not his father.

Maybe it would be different if he lived in a better area, but being "baby boy blue eyes" with a black father and an hispanic mother, I'm sure it makes him feel disconnected from his family, and when drugs and bad influences are just around the corner, you get a *beep* up kid.

You can't. Nature > Nurture in the end.

Hire a better screenwriter to write your life. You're right. They tried to paint him as a wayward kid, but there was absolutely nothing behind that whatsoever. At least AJ had the whole broken home thing, barely touched on though even that was.
