Last Year's Winners

Hi guyysss. k' so I don't watch Glee, I've seen maybe 3 episodes total. I'm curious, how were last year's winners from Glee Project used? Were they good? Did they suck? Did they only get minimal 'token' kind of parts? What were their characters? I think the one guy was an Irish exchange student right?

Just curious how the prize from this show actually turned out. I'm curious how it'll turn out for Blake, too.

Ack! NO Alex! That kid annoys me so much I want to punch baby seals...

He can't act because he's not technically acting. It's like Alex reading the lines. No versatility at all.

Real LOSERS spell 'loser' looser!

While I love his singing & dancing, he mumbled his lines when first talking to Mercedes and Kurt I STILL have NO idea what that whole thing was about chinchilla &nobody else here seems to know or care. (re Alex)

What they bring back Alex because of what he represented and not Lyndsay who could have been a great Rachel replacement

Winners (won 7 episodes)

Sam Larson's character was written with a Christian storyline that was inspired by fellow Season 1 contender Cameron Mitchell, who quit the competition due to his strong Christian values conflicting with the sexuality aspect of Glee. He will be back for Season 4.

Damian McGinty plays an Irish exchange student. He was demoted to a background character and will not be returning for Season 4.

Runner-ups (won 2 episodes)

Alex Newell, who in real life is gay, portrayed a transgendered teen inspired by Newell's stage presence when he performed in drag during Glee Project. He will be back for Season 4.

Lindsay Pearce played a Rachel-like character and had the least amount of screen time. She will not be back for Season 4.

Lindsay- The best all around performer, naturally that meant she had the least amount of screentime amounting to about 5 minutes of screentime within two episodes, including her performances

Damian- Winner number one. Appearing about four episodes in. After realizing he couldn't act his way out of a paper bag, the writers wisely stuck him in the background, he lasted the remainder of the season doing absolutely nothing, sans a couple of subplots. Has been let go for season 4

Samuel- Winner number two. Marginally a better actor than Damo which isn't saying much. Played an uninspired Christian character that had a weird creepy romance with Quinn that was thankfully dropped after like 3 episodes. Staying on for season 4 despite not being interesting at all

Alex- Surprised everyone by somehow being an even worse actor than Damian, though at least thankfully proved entertaining as a performer in which he played the transgendered lead of Vocal Adrenaline. Got two episodes, like Lindsay but a lot more screentime and development, despite the difference in acting talent. Namely Lindsay could act, Alex couldn't. Will be appearing in season 4 as a McKinley transfer.

Thank you for admitting the honest truth that Glee fans refuse to admit.

The real winners of the Glee Project should have been Marissa, Matheus, Bryce and Linsday.

Fact: 31.5% of IMDb users wanted Avatar to win Best Picture.
Fact: 31.5% of IMDb users are idiots.

I read somewhere that Ryan Murphy has expressed regret for eliminating Marissa.

Mattheus - i think he didn't win because of his height. Harsh, but his presence throws off the balance on the staged numbers. He would almost certainly have to be in the middle....like they do w/ Artie.

Bryce- Again harsh, but he was very ordinary. Have a casting call to play his "character" and you could find 50 who would be right for the part.

You're going to bring out all the Damian haters again. The truth is none of them were used a whole lot. Damian's "Blue Christmas" solo was probably his high point. He was generally in the background singing and dancing in the music numbers. Sam and Alex are supposed to be coming back next season. Ryan Murphy seems to like Alex's drag identity "Unique". They seem to think Blake is a star in the making so he should get a much bigger push.

reply

Damien has a lovely singing voice but my gosh was he a terrible actor. Totally unengaged and emotionally disconnected.

Sam is an ok singer. And an ok actor. Not someone worthy of winning a competition though.

Alex-I didn't pay attention to his character or storyline at all. But he has a strong singing voice that rivals Amber Riley's voice but his is more shrill. I'm sure he pretty much played himself though. No use for subtlety that kid.

Lindsay by the end of season 1 of TGP i thought she should have won. She is a strong vocalist and the strongest actor among the four finalists. But she didn't really get to speak. And I think they didn't want her because she'd be another Rachel, albeit a meaner one.

I hope you like feminist rants because that's kind of my thing.

"So what it got down to is they wasted the roles for the two winners with crappy writing and no character development. Who knows how they would have done given a fair chance. "

LOL funny, considering on Glee Project it was all about "wow who can we write this great amazing storyline for." And then it turns out the writing and storyline are the things that suck the most.

Interesting. Thanks for your responses, everyone. Sounds like Sam succeeded the most although he was still boring.

Any actor will tell you that writing is the most important element in giving a good performace. Words, good direction, their voice and body are about the only things they can rely on for their work. Glee delivers sub standard writing and character development and will fail to bring Emmys in this area because the writing is pure rehashed dribble. It's amazing that the two characters developed for Glee for the last year's winners were actually developed while Damian and Samuel were still in competition and had not been given much more consideration, beyond the few minutes the character development ideas were thrown out during the program, before actually airing their performances. Those of us that watched last year's show will know what I'm referring to. I'm totally unimpressed with the writers and give the actors more slack, considering the rubbish they have to work with.

Just for verification: did the writers ever acknowledge that "Unique" was transgender (undergone sex-change) or just a boy in drag? His character said in one episode "All I wanted to do is wear a dress and sing." If the character was transgender he/she would dress as a woman all the time and identify with being a woman instead of calling himself a gay man.

i could've sworn that he referred to Unique as a persona that he would become, wouldn't that imply cross dressing/drag?

There's just a possibility that I will kiss a doorknob.

He began taking birth control pills in late season 4 to grow his breasts, and he had a few moments in season 6 Transitioning that kind of implied it, but no its never been specifically stated.
