An awkward movie
I felt uncomfortable just watching it. I'm not really sure what it was trying to say. But it wasn't bad.

shareWhat is it about? The summary is pretty vague
shareIt's about the relationship between four kids and their dysfunctional parents, circa 1975, as viewed through the eyes of the children. There's an ongoing narrative of the children telling a parallel story as the events play out, which I found kind of confusing and misleading, but just stick with it, it gets better.
shareI was going to DL it but I think I'll pass.

It's a very odd, strangely affecting movie, that shows some interesting style. Especially engaging if you have any interest in the zeitgeist of the mid-'70s. Everyone in it is good, and I can't help thinking we'll be able to say "I saw her in her first movie role" someday, about Olivia Harris, who could well have a big career. She's a hell of a singer, too.
Multiplex: 100+ shows a day, NONE worth watching. John Sayles' latest: NO distribution. SAD.
the acting was pretty good, particuarly molly parker, and the girl who played the oldest daughter.....but the whole movie went absolutely NOWHERE
