Definitely not conventional but a lot of fun...

Just saw this movie at GAZE festival, I was expecting one of those alternative world movies where gender roles are totally reversed maybe something like "Oppressed Minority" but this movie was actually very believable, sure it represents an alternative point of view and in a way roles are reversed, usually old people lust after young flesh, but in this movie, it's the opposite, a very young guy pursues somebody decades older than him, to be honest when I first read the premise, I said 'yuck!",I was expecting something full of adoration of twink culture and glorification of older man falling in love with twinks, more or less a gay version of LOLITA but I'm pleasantly surprised, it was a very warm, very touching story and a total eye-opener. This movie puts some tough questions on how intergenerational relations are seen in today's society, it makes the audience confront its own prejudices, misconceptions and leaves us with a moral dilemma…

I have to say though, despite the unrealistic premise at first sight what makes this movie so believable is the amazing performance of that young guy who plays Lake, with his deep soulful eyes he convinces the audience that a young handsome guy like him could fall in love with a 80 yr old, he is so charming that you instantly love the guy and root for him and of course the older actor who plays Mr. Peabody also deserves an Oscar for his performance, he is charismatic and his dry humour is contagious, the whole audience was laughing at his jokes, kudos the the person who did the casting for Mr. Peabody and Lake, excellent choices!

Having said that unfortunately there were some unnecessary exaggerations in the story like that scene where Lake gets jealous when another young guy chats with Mr. Peabody at the bar, we were asked to believe that suddenly other young guys would be hitting on Mr.Peabody as well whereas in real life, that was simply unrealistic, I mean ,f Mr Peabody was somebody in his 40s or 50s, I would say he would be hit by a lot of the twinks looking for a daddy but normally 80tr olds are considered off-limits, and that is why Lake is unusual he is attracted to a guy which would be considered off-limits age-wise That scene got some great laughs but imo it was kind of unrealistic and totally unnecessary as the performances were believable enough...

This movie was fantastic! I think it's Bruce LaBruce's so far.

Just saw it today and I felt relieved that I am not the only gay guy that list after men my age or older!

I just watched it and couldn't help thinking "wtf am I watching?"...but yet...I agree, it was fun.

A unique and well done movie.

The two young leads were very sweet.

I had never seen a Bruce LaBruce film before, and the only thing I knew about him came from a "L.A. Zombie" review. I think I went to the screening with just a morbid curiosity, expecting graphic and disgusting imagery (I'm not homophobic, but I'm not precisely a fan of gay porn either.)

Contrary to my expectations, I found a quite charming and heart-warming film, dealing thoughtfully with topics such as love, aging and society's dogmas. I'm really glad I watched.
