Should I take my young son to see this

My fifteen year old son loves his grandfather and enjoys spending time with him listening to war stories and generally hanging out. In fact they've been spending more and more time together. To be honest I'm worried this could reflect a sexual preference for really old guys. His mother and I are liberals who are proud of being tolerant and understanding in all things. Its just so hard to think that our lovely young son, who has previously shown more interest in girls than old guys might be inclined towards elderly loving. We will support him in any decision he makes but we do find ourselves thinking - what if he falls head over heels with some George Burns character only to have his heart broken when the old codger keels over on account of age discrimination or something. I'm not sure, but I'm thinking of inviting gramps and Billy down to the local flicks to watch this movie and afterwards generate some man to man talk about the issues raised. There's nothing like a man to man chat to clear the air and to help work things out.

You said he "loves his grandfather and enjoys spending time with him" and I think this should be applauded.

Whether he sees this film is not as important as other issues, such as how all the relatives would view him.

I do hope he would NOT be overly hurt when grandfather meets his demise, or is in his last stages. But for him, that is growing up too.

Kindest regards.

I think it's a leap to consider your son's love for his grandfather homoerotic without concrete information. I would suggest you approach his grandfather before sitting down to this film. You could subtly explore the nature of their relationship with the older man without risking causing your son embarrassment or needless self-doubt. If the relationship is homoerotic, it is also incestuous. That is a whole other taboo which would most likely merit some counseling for both of them, since the shame associated with incest is so deeply engrained in our culture.

I was your kid at that age. Help him resolve the issue, and don't shame him.
