This films imdb ratings is way off

This film was no where near as bad as the 5.6 rating, in fact it was quite good. As a 29 year old man who hates romcoms with a passion, I was not overly thrilled with my wife choosing this film on netflix. However, I love Tina fey and like Paul Rudd so I decided to watch it with her. Obviously this film was marketed as a romcom but it is really a drama with some comedy thrown in. The acting is good, the writing is good, it is funny in a subtle way, and it actually has an interesting premise and some emotional moments. I even teared up a few times! Is it a masterpiece? No. Will I be buying it on DVD? No. But that rating is unfair and I can only imagine people are mad that it is not what they were expecting which is their fault not the film's.

Abide.

I'm disappointed by the IMDB rating too but I suppose we just have to accept that a certain number of people hated it. It's really hard to explain to people when they ask 'will I like this film?' because it really seems to divide people.

I do think you have a point about people not being happy because it wasn't what they expected. The marketing for Admission was awful, they marketed it all wrong, you can actually see the actors involved trying to make people understand it's NOT a comedy as it was advertised, when you watch the interviews they did in the run up to the film being released.

Unfortunately, everyone involved with the film seems to have washed their hands of it, I find this really sad as, like yourself, I enjoyed it.

I agree. The movie is more intelligent than I was expecting. It's not a masterpiece but it was quite enjoyable.

reply

I totally agree. I thought it supported individuality, free thinking, and was a good movie.

reply

I also liked it.

reply

I totally agree it deserves way better!

Agree, too! My sister chose this to watch, and I was oppposed thinking it was another dumb comedy (why are nearly all comedies so DUMB these days?), but I enjoyed it way more than I expected to. Concur that it was really a drama with some humorous moments.

reply

I loved that it wasn't hokey and saccharine. It deserves to be in the mid 6 range. 5.7 is surprisingly low.

reply

I enjoyed it but didn't think it was great. I see where it was trying to go but I felt it lost it's way & never really got there. Plus, it seemed to drag on. Definitely agree with the imdb rating.

I gave it an 8. It deserves at least a 7. I guess I'm biased because I was adopted - and the getting into university thing is an interesting subject.

IMDB rating are often warped. Some people's votes count more. They like to say they are "weighted" but slanted is more true. If you are a staff memeber or a member of the top 1,000 voters then your vote counts more. I have noticed the top 1,000 appear to ba jaded and give lower ratings than any other group. If its French and everyone wears black and dies then its great.

I don't know everything. Neither do you.

reply

lol it was very boring and almost as unwatchable as love guru. It deserves a 3-4 rating

reply

I gave it an 8😃

I didn't expect to like this – and at first I didn't – but this one really grew on me. It's hard to pin down. Is it a melodrama? A romantic comedy? A workplace procedural? A chamber drama? Yes it is. 7/10 stars from me.

Why is a 5.6 considered bad? That should reflect an average film, near the middle of the 1-10 scale. IMDB's ratings are as inflated as kids' GPAs are these days. The average rating on RT is 5.5 for this movie, so I'd say the rating is pretty accurate compared to most of other movies here.

Good point, but it seems like okay to watch movies are rated at least 6 here, anything more than 6.5 is good. I noticed that people here hate on movies for a certain reason, like movies with mainly black cast usually get low ratings, even "About Last Night." Or movies like this, where people expect it to be very funny, simple films aren't for people who are really basic. Fro example, people who say the Avengers is their favorite movies, probably wouldn't like say Mud.

Rating wise IMDb isn't so trusting, like I thought Peeples was good, but rated a 5.2 here. I find that a reliable place is Amazon, there Peeples is a 3.8. Or say Blackish, rated 6.7 here and 4.4 of 5 on Amazon. People troll and hate here, so every movie is falsely rated. Like a person would low rate something like the Shawshank Redemption, because they find it boring. I don't like Anchor Man really, but rated it a 7, because I know its quality. People just don't always know the quality of good films and that it just doesn't fit them.
