I honestly thought that the teacher altered the birth certificate, and that it was so he could trick Portia into helping Jeremiah get into Princeton. That would have been an interesting angle. But I don't like the idea of Jeremiah being involved in the scheme.

The fact that first John, butts into something that is really none of his business and then suckers Portia into believing she is the mother and neither one really solidly checks the background story is just so blah.
