i know "indian" would be more specific, but india is part of asia, so wasn't gail correct in calling ravi asian?

shareYes. South Asians (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh) are commonly referred to as "Asian" in the UK. It's less common to say that in the US but it's accurate.
shareIt may not be the same for THEM, though; it sounds like an Indian may take offense at the term. I think most Asian Americans don't care for it since they consider themselves Chinese-American, Korean-Am., etc. But it's far preferable to Oriental, so they accept it because they know most non-Asians have no idea which country their family is from.
